Streaming TV may never again be as simple, or as affordable, as it is now.

Media companies are seeking to capitalize on the popularity and profitability of streaming.

Once streaming companies have their own subscriber they will try to make a new deal with other companies, and those deal sometimes is not doing good for subscribers.

So subscribers need to find another way to see contents that they want, like subscribe to another streaming company.

This might actually be favorable for Tsutaya, because some people don't want to pay a monthly fee for multiple streaming services and instead will rent what they want at Tsutaya.

Forrester analyst Jim Nail compares this moment to the "Cambrian explosion," a historic era when plant and animal species rapidly multiplied after Ice Age glaciers receded.

A little over-dramatic, no?

Never used Tsutaya, but they have their own streaming and/or rent all you can monthly plan, no? It just depends on what you want to watch, I guess.

As for Netflix Japan, I don't recall seeing any Disney content on there to begin with, so I doubt that will make a big impact.

Considering the Cambrian Explosion took place over a period of about 20 million years, perhaps not. :-)

Too much fragmentation will only mean that people will download what they want for nothing.

Disney can keep their Marvel, I'm over it. Star Wars, I got all the blu-rays. I would like to see some old school Mickey Mouse Club, 90's live action movies or Disney animated shorts though.

But keep it going Netflix! Hopefully all this competition and over flooding the market will lower prices across the board. If every subscription was $5 a month (600 yen?) I think more people would subscribe to mulitple channels.

Where is Nickeloden - Nick at Nite in all this? I much rather see their 80's-90's programming than Disney's.

@shogun36

Just did a search and found this:

Not available outside of USA, however. I'll have to try via VPN.
