This is where Rian Johnson belongs so, ‘Nice work’, Netflix. Give this hack his profitable franchise after he ‘cut up’ another, more popular franchise. There was no way fir JarJar Abrams to piece that ‘hatchet job’ back together. Speaking of hatchets, Nice chopped photo, AP, of ‘headless’ Jamie Lee Curtis and ensemble cast, Ana De Armas, Chris Evans and others. Plus, we can’t wait to see the ‘cuckolded’ James Bond and the NEW, rewritten, reshot, re-edited and revised ‘007’, once again, delayed,

YES!! A sequel to the excellent film from the director of the best modern Star Wars movie. Well done, Netflix!

I didn't particularly like this movie and felt it was overrated. Not difficult when everything else Hollywood Inc. puts out reeks of unimaginative reruns.

But I'm not surprised that Netflix has been able to pull in big directors considering that many movies are going to be seen on home screens rather than in theaters. Might as well work for the company that distributes movies that way anyway.

Curious. ”Knives Out’ was fine, for its genre **@*LazurusKnows 10:00am, but what makes the“modern” (your words) SW movie “The Last Jedi” the “best” ? And, are the original characters and their stories arcs no comparison? This director dissected many aspects of the original storyline. For what purpose, other than to ‘subvert expectations’? - Curious as you seem to comment often on certain types of movies but never give reasons ‘why’.*

Agreed. Knives Out is great fun and TLJ was a joy to behold.

Not so. Luke was a moody young man, who left his training halfway through and let his emotions take over on several occasions. His moody old man, who let his emotions take over and jeopardise the future of the Jedi, is spot on. And the tossing the lightsabre away was very much the sulky brat he occasionally could be, back in the original trilogy.

Besides, age does things to you. It can exaggerate youthful traits, or make one bitter, remote and cynical. Or, it can make others wish for their childhood when everything seemed better, back then.

TLJ is flawed, of course it is, but (along with Rogue One) it's the standout film of the later installments.

Just seems like there never really was a prescripted outline for these ‘sequels’. So much potential opportunity for ‘closure’, if needed, and ties to the new cast was lost. Seems like each director just threw in some ‘member berries‘ and did what they wanted.

Seen it once. Okay, fine. With your notes ‘in hand’, we’ll try give it a ‘rewatch’.

Hey, if you don't like it, no worries!

Sometimes, it does take more than one viewing. I remember being underwhelmed by Withnail & I when it first came out and on repeat viewings, I grew to love it. Same with The Big Lebowski, and (gasp!) Casablanca and plenty more...

In the case of sequels, I initially liked The Godfather III. Then on second viewing, I liked it less so. But in recent years, I've got to appreciating it again and the flawed narrative and the other faults. Same with the Twin Peaks movie... although it kind of works as a standalone.

Knives Out was a good movie, very enjoyable.

Agreed @rainyday 7:49p. ‘Luke was Luke again’ (well, as we last remembered him) in the Mandalorian. And,Rogue One’ was a great ‘one-off’.

Enjoyed “Knives Out” and Rian Johnson’s ‘Looper’ way back when JGL was ’up & coming’ and, before BW was Doraemon.

@ToastedH 4:51p: Our 2:17p response was to both You & @LK but ‘their’ 1:42p comment was ‘edited in post’ for ‘unknown reasons’. You would have found it interesting as well.

So, actually, keeping with the spirit of finding some commonality, will give SW:TLJ a second view, from Your different perspectives.

Btw: Great list of films above.

Good for you. I came here, read your initial remarks and then planned to reply to them in a manner that was bound to spark a flame war of some kind. Then I read the comment above and I have renewed respect for you.

I, too, loved TLJ and, though I can't profess to being a SW fan boy, I very much appreciated Rian Johnson’s attempts to do something new and unexpected with the franchise. The majority of SW fans were not open in any way to this concept but, coming as it did so soon after Rogue One, I felt that it gave the whole shebang a lift that JJ was unable to benefit from. TROS was a dreadful end to the saga. Anyway, I for one look forward to these Netflix movies. Knives Out was a lot of fun...

Wow. What a rip off. Netflix will soon again raise their subscription and produce a few more crap original movies and series.
