This argument is an interesting one. On the one hand, you will get people seeing ridicule of Christianity as cool and progressive but the same people often regard the ridicule of Islam as symptomatic of a hatred or a ‘phobia’. There is a double standard here. I think ridiculing both is fair and honest.

However, I can’t help but think that Christians should regard their relative restraint at supposedly negative portrayals of Jesus as a point of pride compared with the mayhem and butchery which often results from supposedly negative portrayals of Mohammed.

I’m sure decent Christians don’t want the same culture of fear, fatwas and threats surrounding portrayals of their deity.

Let's look at the facts as written in the Bible. You have a middle-aged man who travels around with several other guys, and sleeps and eats with them. Suggesting he was gay is hardly surprising.

Does his sexuality matter one way or the other?  I don't believe that he is depicted as ever having had a partner of one or other sex in any scriptural document......   Frankly, as the Son of God you wouldn't think it matters one way or the other.

Odd how some people are so terrified that a great dude like JC could have possibly been gay. As if, somehow it's a bad thing and negates his message of love, peace and equality.

Russia is actually popular to flee to. There have been other famous people going there to escape taxes and leak arrests.

I'm not sure we can label every person at Netflix like that....but I think it is fair to say that the entertainment industry generally portrays Christians negatively and makes fun of us in ways they would never do to most other groups or religious people. Because we usually 'turn the other cheek' we're easy game.

I also think that this one insignificant flick that will probably be a box office flop is probably not worth our outrage as much as the avalanche of movies that glorify the basest of human non virtues: violence, war, materialism, selfishness, anger, revenge, etc. The sheer weight of this Hollywood garbage negatively affects society far worse than this movie ever will.

So, I don't think us Christians ought to scream about this. But 90% of the Brazilian population is Christian. So is 65% of the US population. If they or the rest of us Christians don't like what Netflix or the rest of the entertainment industry is offering then they/we can just quietly ignore them, cancel our subscriptions, etc, like I've done for decades now. Losing a huge chunk of their customer base might make the entertainment industry clean up its act.

What do you mean 'again'?

Rather than protest and take legal action, these particular Christians ought to just ignore the film. Let the artists have their freedom of speech, however distasteful, just as we want our freedom of speech, however 'offensive' some think it to be.

We need to all just cool down and stop getting offended by every little thing.

I understand someone of a higher profile jumping off to Russia but random Brazilian Catholic Terrorist doesn't seem to fit the bill. It's possible I'm just missing something though, tbh.

As for them being mad about Jesus being portrayed as homosexual... in this case it probably doesn't have much to do with the homosexuality bit in and of itself. The Catholic Church did very much away with the Gnostics and anyone else who portrayed Jesus as a man with human behavioral characteristics rather than a divine entity essentially entrapped in a human body. Debating the entire trinity thing still can evoke open warfare within the Church, not to mention outside influences.

One of the reasons people don't take 'Christian' terrorism seriously is because they put a Western, Protestant, American Bible-Belt spin on it but there's some really Orthodox inner-faith disagreements between the various sects that, given the right environment and political backing, can be quite dangerous (think the Irish Troubles). I doubt just removing the film from Netflix would quell the anger of the guys who threw the bomb. They would probably have a similar reaction to a film portraying a drug using Jesus, a sexually-driven Jesus, etc. because really hard line Catholics consider the humanity of Jesus to be blasphemy in and of itself.

Protestant sects, generally, don't have this type of problem, as they are an 'interpretation' as much as anything else. When Protestants go all murder-ey, it's usually about a single issue. Homosexuality, abortion, the Jews, etc. Saying the opposition to the film is based solely on Jesus being gay is putting on Protestant-colored glasses and looking at a Catholic problem.

As for the comment above... are you actually trying to justify a terrorist act against civilians because they made fun of your guy? Followed almost immediately by saying they should have a 'gay Muhammed' show for good measure. At least you show your bias, I guess. Everybody knows exactly why there's not a 'gay Muhammed' show - not everybody is, for lack of a better trope, prepared to die on that cross. Obviously you think there's something to the idea of killing people for insulting your guy or else you would not have mentioned it and therefore you are no more morally righteous than the guys who shot up Charlie Hebdo.

Just don't watch the film if you don't like it, it's what Jesus would do.

Netflix has purposely chosen to slander a beloved historical figure by branding him as something that, as the Son of God, is something he would be vehemently against. It would be as if they made a show where Obama was a pedophile and defended it as freedom of expression.

That is not the definition of historical figure. Unless someone provides actual evidence of his existence, he considered a literary figure like Sherlock Holmes.

If they wanted the true depiction of Jesus if he were homosexual, they would have him fight against homosexual sexual temptations ad succeed, as anyone who is not married must fight against sexual temptation, even heterosexual.

Netflix has been known to apologise for multiple other offensive mistakes, but is showing here their anti-Christian bias by refusing. They literally issued an apology for not explaining "pansexuality" well enough, THANKED the LGBT community for telling them, and promised to fix it in future seasons.

Imagine if Netflix made a film about Allah being gay, Nope they would have been terrified of the repercussion's so if wont do it for one religion they should respect all religions - lets hope Brazil's supreme court rules against Netflix.
