New 'Star Wars' film 'Rogue Squadron' due in 2023

I've been a Star Wars fan my entire life since seeing the original trilogy as a kid, but I haven't really loved anything since Return of the Jedi.

The prequel trilogy was awful.

The Sequel trilogy looked like it might be good for about the first half of the Force Awakens, but then it evolved into a train wreck and the whole trilogy was about as awful as the prequels.

The stand alone Rogue One and Han Solo movies are the only movies I've been OK with. I didn't love them, but they were kind of OK movies, which is about as much praise for any post 1983 Star Wars stuff as I can muster.

I just wish they would move on and come up with some original ideas for sci fi adventure movies rather than trying to bleed Star Wars, Star Trek and all the old comics for everything they are worth. I just don't think the Star Wars universe captures the imagination in the 2020s like it did back in the 1970s and 1980s.

I lost interest after "The Wrath of Khan".

When I was a kid, I was very curious in star wars.

When I saw the first Star Wars Movie coming to cinema in my hometown, it was so cool. Seeing the very young Harrison Ford as Han Solo, the beautiful Carrie Fisher...

But now, I completely lost my interest in Star Wars.

But these days my son starts to get interested in it.

But, in fact, your wry reference to Star Trek segues neatly into my point: Unlike Star Trek, Star Wars has a rather limited universe. Star Trek is all about people exploring different planets and having different encounters. It's very open-ended. Star Wars ultimately boils down to the goodies beating the baddies: The good team destroy the baddy-base again and again, and the good jedi beats the evil emperor again and again by redeeming the bad sith. Then you have some stuff happening in between with the spin-off stories and whatnot, but even that boils down to rebels/republicans eventually getting the better of the technological terror of the day. Still, Dark Forces Jedi Knight is one of my most treasured gaming experiences.

 if you're not into the majority of the star wars content, you're not a fan, you're a casual viewer, it's simple logic.

Simple logic would also dictate that it is possible to be a fan of something without having to like everything about it.

Yes this is becoming repetitive and reflects Disney's priority to milk this franchise for shareholders' interests more than developing new projects for the viewing public...as usual money more important than people in a certain type of economic system.

Disney unashamedly squeezing every last drop from Star Wars.

It is getting tiring to see how Disney can only thing on milking old things instead of producing something new.

Now, this will be interesting. Maybe Christensen will be given the chance to flex his acting muscles, as he was stifled by Lucas' staid direction in the prequels.

Really? I have never seen him showing special talent for acting.

Star Wars is nostalgia fuel but is a dead stick. Give something more intriguing a chance like Scottish author Iain M. Banks the "Culture" series.

that gender sexual political agendas are still unbelievably what is being pushed by Disney on the public.

Strong female characters like Princess Leia and Amidala? I mean, the whole kissing her brother in the original trilogy was a bit much for the former but even worse, her mom had to endure sulky Anakin in the prequels.

The great thing about the films is that they have strong characters of all genders, colors and species. Nothing changed except some of us lost their sense of wonder and became cynical and hurt because we got older and expected the same sense of wonder 40 years on...

The Disney Disaster Trilogy Tragedy and the Han Solo Sucks film were not a big enough hint that non-canon material, i.e. out of line with the Trilogy, does not sell.

Packed out cinemas and DVD sales would indicate otherwise. Ok, so Solo was more a B movie heist tale but still a solid 2 hours. And all canon, too.

Give something more intriguing a chance like Scottish author Iain M. Banks the "Culture" series.

Now, that would be interesting but I think I heard it's not going to happen now. Which is a shame.

People like to comment with cliche and hop on the "Oh I don't like it... Jar Jar binks...". It is a set of films that is a cultural icon. If you don't like it, don't go see it. Leave it to the real fans.

I think this distinction is a bit out of date.

The Star Trek TV shows certainly used to be like that - with storylines focused on exploration and encountering new aliens on new planets each week. But today the Star Trek stuff is just action schlock without any of that. They've got an established list of baddies (Klingons, Romulans, the Borg, and Khan) and all the movies and TV shows (Discovery and Picard) are just stories about the Federation fighting with them. The storylines actually look a lot more like Star Wars ones than they do like classic Star Trek.

In that sense I think Star Trek has fallen a lot further than Star Wars. Star Wars always had a sizeable chunk of "fantasy" to go along with its "sci fi" element so I think some of its failings are more forgivable. It wasn't about the future. Star Trek though used to be a good vehicle for exploring sci fi ideas and that was its main raison d'etre. Now its lost that and is just a cheap backdrop for stupid explosions and laser battles in space.

So fun to see all these star wars 'fans' in the comments who then go onto saying they practically only like 1 third or half of star wars. if you're not into the majority of the star wars content, you're not a fan, you're a casual viewer, it's simple logic.

Some interesting talent, as the cinematic/TV universe expands. Of course, the books and comics have been going for years, pushing in all sorts of direction. Some work, some don't.

Hayden Christensen, the divisive star of the poorly received "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, will return as Darth Vader in "Obi-Wan Kenobi," another previously announced Disney+ series starring an also-returning Ewan McGregor. Production starts in March.

Now, this will be interesting. Maybe Christensen will be given the chance to flex his acting muscles, as he was stifled by Lucas' staid direction in the prequels.

Another new series will be "Lando," based on fan favorite Lando Calrissian from the original "Star Wars" film trilogy. It will be helmed by "Dear White People" creator Justin Simien.

You'd think Kennedy would stop beating a dead horse, or in this case movie franchise, but she's determined.

I threw up in my mouth on a 12- hour flight from Narita during the opening scenes of the Last Jedi. It wasn't from the turbulance.
