New dad Ryuta Sato named among 'Best Fathers'

Actor Ryuta Sato, 30, was chosen as the most fantastic celebrity father at the "29th Best Father Yellow Ribbon Awards" ceremony held in Tokyo this week.

Sato, who was married last July, celebrated the birth of his first child, a daughter, in November. "I'm really happy to win the award despite being a rookie father," the actor said, "and I hope to continue doing a good job as not to embarrass my wife or my daughter."

Sato also congratulated "Tokyo Friends" costar Eita, 27, who recently found out that he, too, will be a father this coming November with Kaera Kimura, 25.

Minister of Internal Affairs Kazuhiro Haraguchi, 50, won best father in the politician division, as did Diet member Yoshimi Watanabe, 58. In the sports division, mountain climber Ken Noguchi, 36, took home the prize.

Man, I adore this guy, but Best Father? Surely that's like the Noble Prize for Literature: you only get the award after a lifetime of achievement.

Still, if the kid takes after his father he'll have a cute smile.

Not bad. Married in July, Kid comes four months later, and now he's "best father."

And since it was his "first daughter," I suppose they know they will be having more daughters?

You are kidding right?

It always looks like his face has imploded.

Best father?? Surely thats like giving a debut director a lifetime achievement award.

Getting your GF pregnant and then deciding to get married is not an ideal way to start. But then again, this is Japan.

That permanent smile is getting annoying.

Immaculate conception?

Given the context of the (ahem) 'premature' birth so soon after the wedding, and his relative lack of experience in the Dad-business, 'Best Fatherer' may be a more appropriate title.

He shoots, he scores! Back of the net!

His kid is 7 months old and he gets a best father award? What are the requirements for this prestigious award?

inaccurate conception?

my GF thinks this punk is cute. she calls him ryu chan. lol

Foolish. Nothing more than a popularity contest -- nothing to do at all with actual parenting. Bet he doesn't even know how to change a diaper.

LOL

Best father? Shouldn't that award go to someone with kids a little older? This guy is just a pup in the fathering world.

Dekichatta-Kekkon s s s ! Sato-sama, you have already embarrassed your daughter but you can ensure not to embarass your second daughter or son (if it is already on the way).

Jeez dont the Japanese love their little awards and pats on the back. This guy has only been a father for 7 months (perhaps he was the only candidate). Can the moron who awarded this award please stand up and not take a bow.

This award is a complete joke. If they have to pick a "talento" then pick some guy who has been a dad for a least 20 years, and has raised some great children.

So details to WHY he wins this??? Providing sperm, marrying your girlfriend... does not equal good father. Based on looks??

I would have liked to have seen the mayor who took paternity leave recently as an example to his employees win the award.

Actually I was Ryu-chans stand in. He stole my award.

Great point. A far better example than this fool.

Reading coments here, makes me lol. You all cheered up my day. Arigatou..

Darn, I've been a father for many years and this guy beat me out with less than a year of experience. I bet his wife and daughter will not support his achievement in about twelve or so years from now.
