It will go down in history as one of the worst "lipped synced" Super Bowl performances ever.

A halftime show that included pole dancing and crotch shots epitomizes the "power of women"? Puhleeeze.

Enough already just let performers perform, this empowerment stuff is way old, getting pretty lame.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

They built these teams from scratch or bought them with money they earned from working?

and yeah all the pole dancing and butt twerking kinda overshadowed anything else for women.

This year's Super Bowl broke ground for women in high places, including in the ownership of both teams (Denise York of the 49ers and Norma Hunt of the Chiefs),

As female performers known for sexiness when they were younger gets older, they tend to resort to over the top antics to stay relevant. See what happened to Madonna?

I am appalled that anyone would think of this sort of savagely sad display would appropriate for a so called family approved event of any kind let alone one seen by millions. Truly a horrendous sign of lack of taste and public decency. Just beyond belief. As for the power of women, well no it is not it is a sad display of the exploitation of them by themselves.

I have nothing but praise for this performance.

'Power of women?' By pole dancing and gyrating in suggestive costumes?

Strange way to put it to say the least.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Pole dancing and overtly sexual posing. Power of women, sure.

but as soon as a man makes a lewed comment about them he’s suddenly a misogynistic pig.

To be fair, some posters have form for doing so. They indulge in victim blaming in cases of sexual assault and some of them repeatedly call for women to be executed. Especially Japanese women.

It's almost like they had a bad experience and ever since then, they feel rage towards women. Strong role models, or those who have been let down by society. It doesn't matter. The anger is there and manifests itself for all to see.

Hear, hear! Best Super Bowl halftime ever.

Oh good grief. But your Disney movies with people getting savagely killed are fine.

Give me a break.

Well, look on the bright side, at least it wasn’t Maroon 5 doing it.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yup, that’s it, empowering women....to do their crotch shots, for over a decade

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Nothing says woman empowerment like pole dancing and crotch shots. I honestly threw up a little watching that garbage then went back to reading my book.

As an adult male, I enjoyed the show. Eye candy to be seen.

As a father, it bothered me for my girls to see. Latinas often use sex appeal more than other Americans. Part of their culture, I suppose, especially for people in the entertainment industry.

Family entertainment != sex appeal

Melania showed more skin than JLO

Nonsense. Look at all those pre-code films. Not many Latin American women in them.

Mae West was memorably overtly sexual, back in the day. And why not?

Amazing how sections of American audiences have a meltdown when women of colour display their bodies. Just remember the outrage over Janet Jackson.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

What women of color? I didn't see any headlining the halftime show.

Thought libs were supposed to be color blind.

I like female bodies, regardless of color.

I mind when girls are shown that as a way to become famous or wealthy rather than by other, less sexual means.

The NFL is all about family activities. They shouldn't strive to make anyone uncomfortable. Shows like that are not allowed on broadcast TV in the USA. They are allowed on CATV and perhaps, after 10pm. Broadcast TV has different standards...

Melania has tons of nude photos. I don't see too many conservatives on her complaining about her messages. No wonder she is against internet bullying!

'Kids in cages': Super Bowl halftime act by Jennifer Lopez viewed as anti-Trump political statement

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/kids-in-cages-super-bowl-halftime-act-by-jennifer-lopez-viewed-as-anti-trump-political-statement

The main reason why so many of the so called "Real Americans" were against the performance was their performance involved latino and hispanic children in cages singing "Born In the USA"!

Gee, I’m so glad I didn’t watch it and called my dad instead.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Just remember the outrage over Janet Jackson.

That got all those dumb Yuppie lawyers flapping their yaps like Pac-Man the next day.

'Women empowerment' yeah.

Did it show that? Now we're getting somewhere if that's true. Trump is a fascist and he must pay for his crimes!

Yep! That is where a lot of this animosity is coming from!

Has nothing to do with color, get off the race thing. Why liberals always talk about race so much. With JLO it’s mostly about how she was able to preserve herself so well and obviously she spent a lot of money to achieve that, good for her, but I think people appreciate a woman that’s more natural.

He was watching it, wasn't he? :D

2 days later, and people are still talking about the SB halftime show

"Jennifer Lopez and Shakira Provide Super Bowl Halftime Show Ratings Boost"

Their 15-minute set drew a sizable 103 million total viewers on Fox, which is up 4% or roughly 3 million on last year’s Maroon 5-fronted affair... Many called it a much needed energy boost from [last year's] Maroon 5’s performance which Variety‘s Chris Willman called “every bit as thrilling as the game itself” (a drab 13-3 win for the New England Patriots over the Los Angeles Rams).

"JLo and Shakira's Smoking-Hot Super Bowl Performances Had Everyone Talking"

According to data crunched by Twitter, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s smoking-hot rendition of “Waka Waka” was the most-tweeted moment during the halftime slot.

And for the one-two knockout punch, JLo’s pole-dance routine during her performance of “Waiting for Tonight” was the second-most tweeted spectacle.

And people got educated about the "tongue thing" - a.k.a. the zaghrouta

While Shakira's halftime show moment inspired the biggest meme of the night, fans also took to Twitter to educate people on the special meaning behind her tongue move. Shakira, whose father is of Lebanese decent, appeared to be performing a traditional Arab vocal expression called zaghrouta.

According to one user, "Shakira wasn’t just being funny with the 'tongue thing.' what she did is called a zaghrouta, an Arabic tradition used to express joy, excitement, celebration. typically heard at weddings. FYI, she’s part Lebanese."

"Shakira" means "grateful" in Arabic

SO - I guess in this age seeing sexy Hispanic and Arabian heritage women for videogenic 'eye candy' (but lousy music) is OK but it's alright to HATE people of Hispanic and Middle Eastern ethnicity and/or Muslim people. That's right now - gawk at these videogenic sexy women and kidnap Hispanic children + put them in concentration camps AND ban refugees from the Middle East fleeing the crazy genocidal crap being stirred up by ISIL. I get it now.
