NHK might have the slim chance of winning an award for a current affair story, but they would not have a chance in hell winning anything but the big raspberry award for their censored "Anal Retentive" crappy "dumb down" news programs!

The sad thing is - due to having professors on the board with the other old snoozers, things won't change soon!

And they even have the gaul to ask for license fees - Only In Japan!

I agree their independent reporting reminds me of China, but hey, their nature documentaries rock!

What is up with all the non japanese bashing everything in Japan? I gladly prefer NHK over the crap at FOX and MSNBC any day. Japan's media is bad...and America's (my country) is worse...you can't have it all. At least CNN is pretty decent and tries to be non partisan but it's the biggest bore ever.

NHK is comparable with PBS in US. One cannot compare it with cable news network like FOX, MSNBC, CNN...

No. not really. The fact that it is public doesn't matter here. NHK is big in Japan while PBS is nothing here. It wouldn't be fair to compare PBS with NHK since PBS is so terrible.

The BBC would be the best comparison for NHK. The BBC is better than NHK...but the BBC is better than everyone else too.

I hope something like this will motivate all Japanese journalists.to be more professional in the field....

It takes a solid planning and understanding for documentary like this. Good news for a change. Good luck NHK!

To those defending NHK TV News, do you really think or want to accept that it's OK to show in a 30 minute English News Bulletin: 15 minutes of the Kan Leadership Saga with the use of several stupid cardboard posters - suitable for 5 year old's,. 8 minutes of baseball, 5 minutes of weather with dumb vague comments such as "they received 90mm of rain per hour" Duh! - Shouldn't the total time frame also be mentioned?

Maybe those supporting this type of content should start up a little club called "E.A.R.N" (Enjoy Anal Retentive News)

However, I agree with the comment about the most content of U.S TV News - very repetitive and also "Dumbed Down"

Those who can stream - give us some feedback about this site: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/ Click on News - then on video

i'll finish off by saying "Thank God We Have this Website- Japan today - That shows me most of the real uncensored news, ( I hope!)"

Cheers, Ed

NHK is cautious in their daily news programmes, because of their history-they know they have to be careful how they present things. Their detailed current affairs programmes are THE best. They are investigated, and long. You might want to watch some of their programmes that are on at off-peak times-I assume they are so detailed and conveyed in such a non-partial manner but are so contraversial, that they prefer to show them at non-peak times.
