Noriko Sakai in China for anti-drug campaign

Actress Noriko Sakai, 40, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, in 2009 on charges of drug use and possession, has been in China for the past few days to promote an anti-drug campaign.

The Chinese government reportedly requested the actress specifically because of her personal run-in with the law, and Sakai apparently eagerly accepted. Sakai, who toured China many times when she was a singer, is still relatively popular there, and was greeted by smiling fans.

She used to pay to use drugs. Now she gets paid to say "don't use drugs". And we pay for cops and lawyers and jails to punish drug users. Meanwhile, drug companies are among the richest of all companies. Seems crazy to me. Maybe these people are all on drugs.

Her script in the ad: 'Nǐmen hǎo! I was lucky - I was caught in Japan. You folks aren't so lucky. Bang! Zàijiàn'

Looks like a black widow hitman on the job. If you think she's hot I think you have been drinking or had too many beers this morning.

Im surprised she was allowed in at all. I thought that many countries refused people who had previous convictions. Although Im not sure shes one of the more convincing advocates for an anti-drug campaign ...

This woman was a hot item in other parts of Asia. Many in those jurisdictions still believed she was innocent from the beginning, maybe that's why someone, somewhere decided to give her a hand...

This China thing came out of nowhere. Who arranged all this, the true motive of this PR etc. etc. is still not clear, but something is really fishy about it.

This woman has priors. Better treat her with caution.

I read in the paper for users who are caught in China (just for using) it's not that bad and you are not even considered criminal even though the police are involved. They have some sort of protective custody where the process lasts for 14 days. The article mentioned that if you are using just for yourself you are not harming another person which is the logic behind the non-criminal process. In that case it would have been better if Ms. Sakai had been caught in China. If you are distributing in China then you will get really nailed since that is considered hurting another person.

No one should ever be imprisoned for drug use. That is barbaric and inhumane.

What is never mentioned in these type of articles is that the cash money from the huge black market in illegal drugs is what keeps all the big banks of the world liquid. When the drug cartels stopped laundering their cash, they crashed the banking system in 2008, that is a matter of public record, and recorded in comments by Antonio Maria Costa, who was Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Noriko Sakai in China for anti-drug campaign

It is a honorable mission she's ever done in her career besides her entertainment popularity. In U.S., FBI has promoted many bad-turned-good guys in similar attitudes to earn credits from publicity and in-reality experiences.

Good for her. She has turned her life around.
