NTV announcer Asami Miura, 27, has been ranked the most popular female announcer in Japan for the second year in a row according to Oricon Style.

Oricon said Miura ranked No. 1 because she projected an image of being cute, fresh, clean-cut and approachable.

Ayako Kato from Fuji TV was second, followed by Yumiko Udo from NHK, Mariko Oe from TV Tokyo and Yoko Shono from Fuji TV.

The rankings were decided by 1,000 responses obtained between Nov 19 and Nov 25 through Oricon Monitor Research.

Not quite. She's very popular for being down-to-earth and for being a big eater (eg. not anorexic)

The fact that she is down to earth and eats well creates the image of her cuteness because her attitude differs from the impression normal female announcers have ; treated like a TV personality acting elegant and idolly. Definition of "cuteness" may be different from what many people perceive outside Japan. "Kawaii" means many things here

Which male announcer is cute and fresh enough to win this most prestigious japanese journalism award?

OK, if we are going by cuteness, here is my ranking of announcers-

Yukari Nishio- Though she is a little more "mature" in age, she gets me every time

Ayako Kato

Yoko Shono

Yoshie Takeuchi

Mariko Oe
