It seems that there are several "reboots" of old programs on US TV. Is there a dwindling creativity?

Same in Australia.

All the free to air network shows are garbage and/or repeats of stuff dating back decades.

I don't think I can recall free-to-air network television being as bad as it is right now.

I think 10 years and they are gone, replaced in Australia's case by Netflix, Foxtel, Stan and alike.

And then, there's Youtube.....the elephant in the room.

Foreign language movies and TV shows with sub titles are much more desirable than the the forced programming available. Unpleasant lighting, inadequate story line, and excessive violence without purpose lack appeal consequently a failure to be reached by TV advertisers.

US networks also show sports..that's not going away soon

"Friends" and "Seinfeld" had long run out of gas before they went off the air. Those last seasons and series finales were absolutely horrible, especially the latter one. Network TV slowly lost its vitality as the 90s progressed, and these reality TV shows are crap. Now there are reboots and such but the thrill is gone. Without the original stars that made those original shows the winners they were, I seriously doubt if they'll be even worth the bother. Contrary to some opinion, 'political correctness' isn't truly to blame, even though many shows in the 90s started having 'token' characters that added nothing to the plot. The Big Problem Is (drumroll. CLASH!) - repeat after me -  Hollywood Has Run Out Of Ideas.

Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO, etc. are still technically Hollywood though, and they're getting praise from the people

It's the mass market - shows that try to cater to as many types of people as possible

Those whose targets are narrower tend to better understand their targets and thus produce material that their targets appreciate
