Alfie Noakes
A peerless songwriter and lyricist. By a strange coincidence I just listened to Get Happy again the other day, for the first time in a few years. That's probably my favourite, a wonderful album with not a subpar song on it. Dusty in Memphis and 90-year old Burt Backache though, that's a killer combination. Can't wait for this.

I like some of his stuff, particularly with the attractions, but I always remember the observation that the reason music critics like Elvis Costello is because music critics look like Elvis Costello.

Saw him a few years back in Tokyo. On his own and doing his thing. Disappointed he didn't sing "A Good Year For The Roses" (one of my favorites) but otherwise he was flawless.
Nessie
One of the finest songwriters of his generation, and articulate in interviews as well.

"She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake" among so many others.

Glad he's back... he's done some excellent work. That said, as with Japanese artists who make big deals of retiring only to come back a year later, I know it's hard to stick with it when you're creative and/or have bills to pay, but don't make a big deal of it if you're coming back.

Glad to see that he's back. He probably didn't really want to hang up his hat anyway. Besides, his leggy wife has her music career going so why should he stop?
There's quite a number of good artists still at their game who are still putting out good records and those CDS are worth checking. I've seen Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Ferry, Bon Jovi, U2, Sting, Peter Gabriel, John Mellencamp, etc. in the past few years and they still continue to put out some really good music. And Paul McCartney just released a new CD and it entered the album charts at #1.
If you still have knack and the wit - I say go for it. You could win new fans on the way and who says you HAVE to stop at a certain age? Joking aside, the Rolling Stones are still rolling. I last caught them in 2015 and they can still put on a show.
Some bands go on until they just can't. One of my favorite bands - RUSH has kept right on going for 50 years. Lingering medical issues (due to aging) in at least 2 of the 3 members led to finally disband this year.

"Unfounded speculation that he was at death's door upset his family.
"I had some very nice messages from people I've never met or saw on the street saying very nice things about me," he said.
Well, that's not so bad, but I can understand how it would still be upsetting.
"And, of course, there are one or two who say, 'I never liked him anyway, I hope he dies.'"
You just have to ignore those thoughtless imbeciles.
"the Rolling Stones are still rolling. I last caught them in 2015 and they can still put on a show."
They've officially changed their name to The Strolling Bones" haha and yes, they are still strolling!

Really cute. No, the Stones are still at it BUT Sir Mick doesn't quite do as much hypernetic 'body language' (flamboyancy, jumping around, strutting his butt, etc.) as he used to. He didn't even take his shirt off. Time has been the side of this Peter Pan but it still HAS caught up even to him. The Rolling Stones still can put on a terrific show and I highly recommend seeing them, but not even Sir Michael Phillip Jagger has eternal youth.
