@MarkG... Yeah another person who grew up dirt poor and became a billionaire. And when did being incredibly brilliant as a celebrity carry any weight? Most seem to be influence by the newest bimbo or druggie.

Not a huge fan but at least she is a positive influence. Too many things and people focus on negative behavior and get rewarded for it! Keep doing what you do Oprah.

Congrats, Oprah.

Not a fan, but I've heard she works as hard as anyone out there. She's also not just in it for herself.

The real news here, for me anyway, is that better than 50% of the respondents did not rate celebrities on this list as influential. So what I wonder about is: does that mean they aren't influenced by celebrities at all, and how that's been trending over the years?

Deserving but I think Dr. Phil ("Dr. Phil Show") deserves it. He has helped countless troubled adults and teens alike and aggressively follows up on their progress. Dr. Phil is a no bull sh@& type of person and says what he means and means what he says. Great man and great show. Just my 2 Yen worth.

I halfway agree with you, Mr. DeMicke, but he seems to have drifted towards the sensational in the last three or four years. A bit too much attention to the ratings, perhaps?

Just influential to sheep. Oprah is just another person, not incredibly brilliant, just another person.

Depressing. Maybe Oprah has encouraged reading among her fan base, but she has caused untold harm thru her uncritical promotion of all kinds of claptrap: the paranormal, psychics, new age spiritualism, conspiracy theories, quack celebrity diets, past life regression, angels, ghosts, alternative therapies like acupuncture and homeopathy, anti-vaccination, detoxification, vitamin megadosing, you name it.

They've omitted the top 2; Celebrity-in-Chief Barack Obama, and his wife, Michelle.
