The Oscars are a farce to begin with. The public is stirred up by the media to think that they matter in some way. Think about it, milionaires in an industry patting each other on the back and the public taking all in as if they're going to get some reward for being enthralled by the spectacle of it.

How about watching the Golden Konbini? Convenience stores getting together to applaud each other for "Best Onigiri," and "Best Nikuman." Sounds exciting, doesn't it? It the same bloody thing.

Hollywood pumps out unoriginal crap like fast food, Rocky 2,735,907 anyone?

How about some good original plots, with good actors for a change? Of any color.

Chris Rock is not petty...like what's his name.

@trouble. I agree. But blaming Hollywood is like blaming Germans for Hitler. It works but it doesn't, depending on how you look at things. I'm waiting, maybe in vein, for the "The Big Short" to come to the big screen here. Quite an important movie IMO.

The list for best picture:

The Big Short

Bridge of Spies – Steven Spielberg

Brooklyn

Mad Max: Fury Road

The Martian – Ridley Scott

The Revenant

Spotlight

I've only seen Fury Road, and I can say IMO, what a friggen waste of time! Spielberg, it seems, can't do a movie without his emotional climactic background music for the past 20 years. Seen some good recent movies this year and none of them were nominated. DiCaprio, again!

I watch all sorts of movies that find their way to my portable hard drive. magic.

Rock Rocks. He should really be making a ton of fun of whitey, and the people will laugh, because they can take it. Do not do the opposite though.

@Trouble: The Konbini awards would be really funny. I wonder if that doughnut that looks like cinnamon, but most definitely is not would take a win.

Chris Rock has some pretty funny humor that is making fun of black people too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOx6OM01M5M

It's ALL token at this point... how can anyone take this issue seriously?

I don't care much about the Academy Award ceremonies, but I think this diversity campaign is pure lunacy, the whole political correctness - affirmative action thing is completely out of control. OK, they'll double female and minority membership. What next? Quotas for all minorities, racial or sexual? Ok, what next? Quotas for blondes, brunettes or, hmmm, hair-challenged people? Then? Quotas for people with blue, green or black eyes? Then? Quotas for tall, middle or, hmmm, vertically-challenged people? Then quotas for..... Well, I think America has gone mad with its political correctness.

From now I'll be even less interested in Academy Award stuff.

it took me a long time but I finally stopped caring or watching the Academy Awards. I think it was the last hold out "must see" TV item before I went entirely online. All anyone has to do if they are a movie fan is make their own list with friends and have their own awards party. Don't watch them and if their ratings plummet far enough over and over that should end the show.

Foreign movies don't stand a chance in the Oscars since there's not enough foreign-minded people in the voting people - everyone's so ethnocentric

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but whatever... The Academy Awards have a foreign movie category - an award for the best foreign movie of the year. Because, and this is the important part, this is an award show for American movies.
