Oscar moments: History, glamour ... and what a weird ending

I'm still confused as to why you would not watch a film in 2014 because you expect not to like a film that won't be released for another three years. It's like if I said, "oh, I'm not going to watch Raya and the Last Dragon, because Untitled Pixar Movie (to be released in 2023) sounds really bad". It's just not rational behaviour.

Moonlight was brilliant, by the way, as was Roma, as was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri etc.

Film making has never been healthier (pandemic aside, obviously) but it does seem to upset the popcorn contingent.

Now pray tell, who exactly is "financially invested" in the oscars? Do you think the poor ratings will have an adverse effect on the box office/viewing numbers of Nomadland, The Father or Minari? I somehow doubt it.

I don't understand. You didn't watch a film from 2014 which was directed by David Robert Mitchell because you didn't like a 2017 film directed by Jordan Peele?

They're completely different films, with utterly different stories.

The good thing is, with the plethora of content now online and in cinemas, nobody is forcing you to watch a movie about "gay black people" (it's actually only one guy in Moonlight, but thanks for proving you didn't see it), you can go see the latest Bruce Willis actioner all you want! You can enjoy all the movies you like, and let other people enjoy what they like. And no need whine and cry your conservative tears all the time.

Manchester by the sea - dull

Moonlight - it's about gay black people, that was it, nothing interesting.

12 years a slave - had high expectations but ultimate let down.

Dunkirk - poor man's Saving Private Ryan

Frome the top of my head: Moonlight, Boyhood, The Master, Fury Road, Hereditary, It Follows, The Witch, Dunkirk, Whiplash, Under the Skin, 12 years a slave, Lady Bird, Manchester by the Sea... Yeah don't worry about creativity in Hollywood, it's doing pretty good actually. We should all be way more worried about creativity in Hong Kong/China or Japan, countries with fantastic cinematographic histories who now mostly churn out complete drivel.

Correct, political woke point scoring has finally put the nail in the coffin for the oscars. Return to meritocracy and remove politics and maybe you could salvage it.
