One of the best and he will live on in those great works he made. RIP.

He broke ground by refusing to portray himself as a stereotype, and that's good. Somebody had to break the mold. By that stance, by refusing to sign a stupid 'loyalty oath', bt refusing to be an 'Uncle Tom' he led the way for future Black acting stars to come such as Billy Dee Williams (I met him at a sci-fy convention) and others.
I've seen 'the original The Defiant Ones” and the 1985 remake (Robert Urich is the White convict in that one) and “In the Heat of the Night,” on TV. I didn't know that he directed 'Stir Crazy', that one made laugh my fanny off! And in 8th grade reading class we read the story 'Lilies In the Field', then we saw the film (movie time, yippee!).
Man this guy is more than a pioneer in so many ways. He was more versatile than many of us may think. The entertainment industry has lost a giant today. RIP Sir Sidney

He was a great actor, he was a great human being and he was great fighter. Someone who supported the civil rights movement with not only words but by contributing money.
Nothing but respect for this great man.

Wishing everyone a happy & prosperous life but recall family always whispered a prayer when these famous persons seemed to pass in ‘groups of threes’. No logic or scientific reasoning for this way of ‘feeling’ but Betty White passed last week, now Sidney Poitier.
Seems that, particulary in stressful times, human beings are naturally inclined to seek patterns, even when there are none to be sought.
These were just favorite stars who were able to act so well that we could share ‘other life experiences’. They will be missed.
Godspeed -

Oh, how I wished he'd lived forever! Always respected him and how he had honorably carried himself throughout his life. Loved, To Sir With Love and In The Heat Of The Night. He always looked in a calm, reflective way. I will miss him.
