I would do it! Give me a chance, a nice change from the usual!

Does anyone watch the Oscars anymore
Blacklabel
Seems few will care. That’s something you see a list of later and realize most people have never even heard about any of those movies, much less seen them.
Im sure they will find a way to give Black Panther something as a nod to the virtue signallers.

The WHAT’s?

Why not? Titanic hoovered up the Oscars and that was far worse than BP. Sure, it's not Marvel's best but the direction by Coogler was solid enough, if a bit journeyman.
But hey, maybe it won't get an award on the night, thus placating those other virtue signallers who continue to rage against positive representation of women and minorities.
Anyways, if we can have driverless vehicles, we can have presenterless Academy Awards.

Many of those voting, amongst them. So I heard.

That’s not why people go to the movies. “Wow that movie was horrible, but what a positive representation of minorities it was”

Not entirely, no. But I didn't suggest that.
Black audiences reacted positively to the movie, hell, some of my mates who don't normally do Marvel loved it. I'm not saying every black person who went to see it had a collective mono-thought moment, of course not. But it was a pop-cultural phenomenom.
When you went to see it, what did you think? Did you like the movie & did you see it as Oscar material?
Tbh, I didn't see it as Oscar-worthy. But it was still quite spectacular.

Without a Politically Correct Host. "Foreign Language Films' are, to me, far more preferable than the insipid drivel offered by Hollywood.

I guess it depends on exactly what kind of film Hollywood offers up. Even the moniker of Hollywood makes one think of big budget blockbusters. But there's plenty of decent smaller scale fare out there.
I'd say Roma and Three Billboards were certainly the most satisfying films I've seen over the last 12 months.

Here's an idea:
1) winners for each award are shown in news tickers (bottom of screen) and on website
2) regular shows go on
PS: now if they could just get sports to go in 30 min or 1 hour segments instead of hours and overtime. I don't see Star Trek or Manifest going into overtime. Sports, be considerate and get a "to be continued" like the rest of shows.

Chisineko:
I obviously watch foreign shows and some movies (mostly japanese and canadian, but a few Chinese and British as well), but some that are shown in foreign awards are...out there. Monologues, black and white (the 1950s called, they want their tv back), rehashing (yes, Hollywood too, but more drama IMHO), etc. I find it odd that to me north American and japanese shows (ignore special effects) have more in common than north American and european.

Lastly, they need to democratize. More would watch if they could vote - not just among the 3 picked by a select committee, but from all the movies. Guess the Oscar people fear that not enough movies or actors would get "representation" in a "support me this year and ill get you next" sort of way.

When I heard that the Academy was having problems with finding a host was that they should try a new format. Have the Academy president start the evening and then, as each winner comes up, they become responsible for announcing the next category's nominees and winner.

Just have loud, funky music, lots of dancers gyrating like lunatics, balloons, tinsel, whooping and screaming for five minutes. Then have someone come on to announce the results of an award. Present the award. Have an acceptance speech. Repeat (for many hours).
