I would have more respect for the Oscar awards if they required proof that the people who vote had actually watched the films.

"Popular" is so subjective! Define popular? What is popular? Ticket sales? Social media posts?

More Americans might care about the ceremony if the actors didn’t spend so much time insulting them for their voting decisions.

More subjective than "best?" (As in best actor/best film....)

Popular has always been defined by sales. Every award for the arts is purely subjective anyway. There is no objective "best."

I don't think they need to go all MTV awards over it.

Not sure how it's elite, either. It's ackowledging intelligent, powerful films out there that make you think.

Of course, it's all subjective. Sometimes the Academy is going to veer off and surprise with its choices.

Remember City of God? I was sure it would hoover up the Oscars that year but didn't get any. One of the best films to come out of Brazil, heck, anywhere in the last 20 years and ... nada.

If they can't define it, it'll be a mess. Anything that wins best popular film solidifies that its the 2nd best picture award, for all the second classes

This will solve nothing

@cla68, spot on!

Virtue signalling airhead "artists" lecturing the world during their acceptance speeches are just pathetic.

Sorry, but look who people chose as a President. Certainly need some chastising. ;-) As for the Academy Awards, for me, mostly a bunch of self-congratulatory, over indulgent w*^%$#^s congratulating themselves.

Kaishu, i completely agree with the second part of your post.

As for the virtue signalling 'chastisements' theyre just fake bandwaggoning.
