Oscars do not necessarily mean you're good. And even if they did, race shouldn't matter. there are plenty of good black entertainers out there. See my previous posting.

Yes Oscars are a stupid 'who you know' political game but the question really should boil down to who did the best this year.

White, black, yellow, red, etc. - race shouldn't matter. Either you have the TALENT in you or you don't.

It's a sad day when an insert ethnic group requires the Oscars to prove their worth.

correction: "....do not fit into the script.

"The best filmmakers and actors should win; regardless of race." Unfortunately they do not if they are not part of the inbreed brain dead white kiss-ups and corporate fascists that make up the Hollywood film industry. Opportunity? Forget it, unless your body and soul are for sale. Do you know why Hollywood is oh so white? It is because Hollywood deals in cliches that support the white American oligarchy. It is a place where dissent is unwanted. Thus, people of color do not in the script.

Hollywood movies are formalistic, predictable and cognitively challenged. Which is to say Hollywood movies are moronic trash.

I agree with some of the comments above. Does racism and discrimination exist? Yes of course. Has the U.S. made great strides addressing this; yes - but of course it is not a perfect world

As a liberal I find the continuous claims of racism to get tiresome and it really devalues the use of the word where it is losing its meaning.

The best filmmakers and actors should win; regardless of race. The best basketball players get to the NBA, the majority of whom are black. I do not see anyone demanding racial equality in the NBA as they all want to see the best players on the court.

Diversity has never been a requirement for Oscar nominations, nor should it be. Frankly most Americans are sick of diversity propaganda.

BigYenToday 09:57 am JSTThe Oscars are an anachronistic orgy of backslapping and ego vindication.

If you're offended by the way they operate and regard the movies they reward with their statuettes as irrelevant and/or conservative, the solution is simple. Boycott it.

We should be awarding Oscars for good films and people with talent regardless of race or ethnicity. Denzil Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, they're all black and they're good actors who've been awarded.

Every time I visit the US for an extended period of time, the “stuff people care about” gets more and more surreal. And when you go out with my peers here, especially one on one (not in a group), most of them goof about these things. But they also tell me they wouldn’t dare say anything, or even comment anymore, lest they become ostracized. BTW, I’m not white and not over 50.....

The anti-white agenda is becoming more and more brazen. Can you imagine someone pushing something like #NBASoBlack? How long would they last?

Accept diversity.Accept diversity.Accept diversity....

"Just Say NO" to ALL of 'em, to hell with HollyWeird.

If you’re accustomed to unearned privilege then even the vaguest threat of justice can feel like oppression.

JJ Jetplane - There are films that sweep Cannes and Sundance and still don't even get mentioned in the Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a private/closed organization, or, if you prefer, a professional "honorary" organization. It's a private club with some 6000+ voting-eligible members.

The Cannes voters chose their own honorees. The Sundance voters chose their own honorees.

April Reign is NOT a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, let alone a voting-eligible member. She simply wants to whine, and complain, about other people in order to make her feel better about herself. She's just another sad person with a computer, and access to the internet.

Now. As for the Oscars being white and Hollywood being white. I'm tired of people complaining about lack of opportunity. The truth is, we don't create and/or support our own created industries. Forget the Oscars and seeking acceptance from it. I don't even watch the Oscars or care for its relevance. Because the Oscars is more of a popularity contest that doesn't even properly represent what is popular or good. How many times has the most popular new artist in the entire world been overlooked for someone else that old white Oscar voters feel are more in lined with their values than actual facts.

@JeffLee

Is that a serious response? We are overrepresented? Overrepresented but account for the smallest percentage of awards in the industry and account for the smallest percentage of wealth in the industries. You make it sound as if African Americans make up most of the billionaires or individuals that profit from the industries we are "overrepresented" in.

Now. As for the Oscars being white and Hollywood being white. I'm tired of people complaining about lack of opportunity.

Cry me a river. Have these people ever considered that (shock, gasp) the non-black actors simply made better movies this time around?! Pure wallowing in self-pity.

African-Americans have long been over-represented popular music, not to mention professional sports, which is also entertainment. So let's advocate for bringing more white people into those areas, eh?

These advocates are cherry picking when it comes to "equality."
