As much as I think Polanski is a vile person, I agree that his rights were violated; not only by the process, but the idea that crimes not directly related to an organization or its mission can be a cause of action for expulsion.

What Polanski did was more than sex with a minor. He's vile and belongs in jail, not in the academy.

I am sure that they have clauses in their constitilution about not doing things that would cause the organisation to be called into disrepute.

I feel that the anal rape of a 14 year old girl would fall into this category.

Why doesn't Roman Polanski come back to America and face justice if he's so concerned about his status in the Academy? And he committed statutory rape - which IS an issue of power and abuse of somebody who is not at the age of consent. Rape is rape, and it's a crime.
