These movies are a great sleeping aid.

if you read the books, you'll notice that the aount of action/ danger/ excitement increases with the age/ maturity levels of the characters.

Get kids to read the classics.

the classics weren't always so classic, every one had to start somewhere. of course, what is or isn't a 'classic' is a matter of personal opinion.

as for the movie, finally saw it tonight- it was very well done and well acted, although if you haven't already read the books you may be a bit lost. considering the relative length of books as compared to movies, it is inevitable that things get left out.

These HP movies and books are pure crap. Get kids to read the classics.

Do I have to read these books to my kids?

Only if they're very tiny. The wonder and magic of Rowling is that she gets kids wanting to read books running to hundreds of pages with no pictures.

I've still to see the latest HP film, but I videoed the Order of the Phoenix on telly on Friday night and watched it at leisure yesterday. Very enjoyable. Harry is growing into a very hot young man.

Sarge, Sarge, Sarge. Are you just bitter that such a big movie has done well without the need of one single American actor?

lostrune2:

The 2-year gap between movies is kinda reflected in the characters' maturity jump in the movies too - they look so much older.

But this movie was filmed ages ago and was originally slated for a late 2008 release.

"What is the attracton?"

These movies are a great sleeping aid. If you can't sleep, just pop in a Harry Potter movie and within five minutes, you'll be sleeping like a baby!

What is the attraction? Do I have to read these books to my kids?

I tried to watch the Harry Potter movie that was on TV tonight - I lasted about 18 minutes - that's a record for a Harry Potter movie. What a snore-fest.

The 2-year gap between movies is kinda reflected in the characters' maturity jump in the movies too - they look so much older. Can't believe it's been that long. Can't believe there's only 1 book left (although in 2 part movies ala Kill Bill) since it seems like they put so much more plot in the latest movie (compared to previous movies) that would have to be answered in the last movies.

Although still strong, I think Harry Potter has passed its peak though, so even though all the theaters were packed opening day, I don't think it'll have the legs to surpass the first movie's BO gross. Still, the latest movie has funnier scenes.

So, it would be a decade of the actors' lives to finish the series. Not bad for a career.

TOHO doesn't even show it in their Premier Theaters, except for Roppongi. Sad when a major blockbuster doesn't get the treatment it deserves. So, I guess I will she this in Singapore where they have excellent theaters and excellent service. Nothing in Japan compairs.
