Everyone here in Japan knows that S. Korean hackers made hundreds of bots that continously entered "Gandam Style" into YouTube search, which is why the number is a billion. Seriously, can anyone really believe that? A billion?

I see how the Japanese have trouble accepting that Koreans make better music and Chinese make better movies ...

Chinese movies are boring garbage, just like Japanese movies.

Kony2012 has worked so well too! Wait a minute... all it managed to do is get the guy who made it jerk off in public.

lol @ "everyone in Japan". You mean the netouyos in Japan? Netouyos with some serious ax to grind... Ah yes... everyone knows that whatever the netouyos say in 2chan is absolutely the truth even if it's something totally crazy and there's no proof whatsoever.

Anyway, I actually find this kind of sad. YouTube shouldn't become yet another TV station, however perhaps this was inevitable.

PS I like Korean music, boy bands an all. They are much better than Japanese boy bands in singing and dancing, and they should get the billion hits. @Thomas Anderson: yes, netouyos as you put it, but that doesn't mean it is wrong. There was Koreans first who made that statement and it was translated into Japanese. Of course, the Koreans could be lying, but I doubt it.

Who is the Korean girl band that does the "Taxi, Taxi" song? They should get 2 billion hits.

This Korean fool, psy, should never be allowed in the USA! This dog made a song about killing Americans! Koreans should be ashamed of this fool!

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Wow what is up with this raging jealousy at psy? bots seriously? millions and millions of them? you think youtube would just let a billion bots through like that?

Aren't you Mexican?

Anyway good on psy, I don't like his music but if thats what people like. Then so be it. I would also vote for freddiew whos videos are insanely well done. :)

Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Psy is definitely a character!

It's great to see more professional world in YT. I think there will always be an amateur market, but YT commercial backed videos is the way of the future.

I doubt that very much. Most Japanese I know haven't even heard of the song, so they wouldn't be interested in making up stories about how Koreans have somehow 'plotted' to make Gangnam Style the most watched video on YouTube. It's the most watched for a reason -- it's fun, and it's catchy. And some of the tribute videos are hilarious.

I'm glad to see music videos making grounds on YouTube when so much content like it is usually forbidden.

And Americans adopted the British song "Killing an Arab" as their theme song for both Gulf Wars. In any case the song Psy made, which is tasteless to say the least, hasn't hurt him much if at all. He was being an idiot, and has apologized for it.

I think I read that there are 33k parody videos on youtube.

Macarena was good while it lasted. 'Gangham Style' is the new Macarena. PSY will need to reinvent himself in 2013 in order to replicate his current success. He is in danger of being stuck in the 'Gangham Style' style, visuals, sound and image. He will need to show variety and versatility.

I still never this... can someone post a link?

You take that back! A Chinese Ghost Story is a kick ass movie!

It's amazing how pervasive and durable this song/video has been since July--Far beyond whatever Macarena did back in the day. My co-workers just made an end-of-year retrospective video featuring all our staff and the highlight for all viewers was a gangnam style parody. Still hear the song on many radio stations here in Calif. So the phenomenon continues. Sure we'll see the song in a lot of New Years programs too (outside of Japan of course!)
