In the film, the Joker, played by Joaquin Phoenix, inspires protests against Gotham’s elites.

Appreciated the first Joker movie for its anti-capitalist themes, like recent hits Squid Game and Parasite.

Trump and his protesters are demonstrating for?

Freedom for a fat cat oligarch to play fast and loose with the law and morality while pretending to be a defender of such?

Massive tax cuts for the .01%?

The most beautiful health care plan ever that never came?

Trump's "movement" is the most astro-turfed "anti-establishment" movement ever.

Truth is as bizarre as fiction in the USA.

Lady Gaga! Nope, I prefer Margot Robbie. Brilliant and believably mad Harley Quinn.

Bad headline

The first Joker was a masterpiece…; this one… let’s see…; I’m still not sure about Lady Gaga joining the cast… but Joaquin Phoenix knows what he’s doing…;

Throngs of protesters gathered at the courthouse steps, chanting for freedom for their embattled hero. Police kept watch as passions flared and voices roared. Squad cars and television trucks encircled the commotion.

It’s a scene New York City authorities have been bracing for as prosecutors consider an indictment against former President Donald Trump, who has invited followers to rally on his behalf. But on Saturday, it was just a movie shoot — for the “Joker” sequel to be precise.

The New York City shoot for the upcoming “Joker” sequel had been planned for months; but in recent days, production crews wrestled with the possibility that filming could be disrupted by real-life protests over the Trump case.

a) millions of people are waiting for Joker: Folie à Deux to come out and b) there’s millions of nutters out there that (still) support Trump…; interesting article.

I thought the Joker was on trial.

I notice that the police are riding horses. Does that reflect the period when the story takes place, or do NY police still ride horses? I was there once in the late 90s, but I don't remember seeing any horses.

The first Joker is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Joaquin Phoenix set the bar extremely high with that one - that's acting at a level only very few can achieve.

Well, one is a bitter, mentally unstable individual, full of nothing but grievances and vitriol towards his perceived enemies (his "them" which he sees everywhere), adored as a cult figure by many, sowing division and discord throughout society.

Haha - well put. I was surprised that it took so many comments before anyone drew the rather obvious comparison, and you did it well.

But even the Joker didn't try to overthrow a general election. But I'm sure the Joker would try and raise money by selling hilariously unironic NFTs.

Protests erupt in NYC — not for Trump but for 'The Joker'

Well, one is a bitter, mentally unstable individual, full of nothing but grievances and vitriol towards his perceived enemies (his "them" which he sees everywhere), adored as a cult figure by many, sowing division and discord throughout society.

The other is, um.

Pretty ironic, isn't it? Filming the scene for a 'Joker' movie which involves jokers demonstrating on behalf of a 'Joker', while a cult leader joker throws his hissy-fits at a town where a violent pervert cult leader sick joker like himself held a standoff 30 years before. That joker and his cult ended the standoff with a tragic mass suicide.

What comes around goes around. 1993 and 2023.

Your accounts of historical facts are just so off the beaten path of reality.

1993 - violent anti-government pervert joker who claims to be God, in Waco, TX

2023 - violent anti-Constitution pervert joker who claims to be the Messiah, in Waco, TX

Two trouble-making joker turds who are nothing but trouble for others. Thing is, one joker and his cult killed themselves in a massive fiery fire that they set up themselves. They destroyed themselves. The other joker and his cult tried their darndest to destroy the USA and its democracy and all that it ever stood for.

And that ain't a joke. It's a sick tragedy that'll scar US history forever. America got raped in 2016 - 2021 and nothing will ever be the same again because of it.
