"My history is being repeated again, in this day and age, because of this pandemic," he said.

Unless he’s being tossed inside an internment camp with barbed wires, his comments should be ignored. Good example of using past slights or wrongs to lash out at non responsible parties.

Hispanic children taken from their parents and put in concentration camps by the Trump administration, that IS a hateful history repeating itself. And the abuses Japanese-Americans like George had to endure isn't slight. And gays don't need to be closeted either.

I met George Takei at a Trekkie convention in 1992, before he 'came out'. He already was a pioneer as an Oriental Asian actor. He would not, did not ever take a role that was stereotypical or degrading to his race. That restricted his career somewhat but he stood his stance on that - no stereotypes. He is George Takei, actor. Period.

Admittingly I was surprised when he 'came out', I would've never guessed. So he is a gay icon now too. Nonetheless if I could go back to that Trekkie convention knowing about his sexuality I wouldn't change anything. He's an intelligent man and I like him. He has a lot of wisdom to tell us all, and we need to hear what he has to say.

massive anti-racism protests this month show the U.S. is "making progress" on diversity"

Gene Roddenberry is rolling in his grave at the damage these protests-turned-riots-and-looting have done to the country. People have wrongly seized on the wrongdoing of one bad cop and pushed a false narrative.

Most definitely the cop deserves at least a life sentence .

But is George Floyd a saint? Heck no.

Does he deserve to be on your T-shirts and posters? Heck no.

Does he deserve to be your Hero? Heck no.

Does he deserve this attention? Heck no.

Candace Owens is right.

Wiat. Are we talking about US citizens or illegal aliens? Just want to be clear.

Well, I wouldn’t call it a pat on the back. What happened to him was a wrong. What’s your point?

The point is that it should've never happened at all! Just like these cops killing Black American suspects. Japanese-Americans are Americans and Black Americans are Americans. There is NO EXCUSE for treating any of them as second class citizens.

George Takei had to deal with discrimination and he hates to see it on others too because he's been there. I hate it too. And you should yoo.

George, thank you for your tireless work on behalf of equality and humanity. You are a truly excellent human!

"Protests show 'progress' on diversity"

If only they were "protests." These are hardly "protests" rather they are flat-out riots.

But he does have a point about diversity. Now, thanks to Antifa, we have soy-drinking weasels teaming up with BLM thugs smashing up businesses, looting, and shooting innocent people.

Yay for diversity!

The left and their victimhood, assuming what George Takei is saying is correct he has gone from an internment camp to a highly paid actor all while being gay and Asian in a supposedly racist / homophobic country.

Progress on diversity is unlikely to prevent the next murder by police. Try and stay focused please.

Any idea how many people died on the rough ride to the internment camp? The total amount of family assets lost during his time there? What its like to be a child prisoner in a repurposed horse stable? How many years he spent in the closet? How many homosexuals have been murdered over the years for being homosexuals?

Mr. Takei got married in 2008. He was 70 or 71 years old. That is how long he had to wait just enjoy, as little as an old person can, a pleasure most people get half or less of that age. I don't even expect I will live to be 70.

If all that is the price one must pay to be highly paid in any profession, I will choose to remain poor thank you very much. As for that more or less homophobic and racist country, I am glad I got out. You can keep it.

I agree.

If respect and application should be for all, please do not compare to old times (camps due to WWII).

I don't mind gays as long as they don't show off as icons because they are gay.

I like gays who show off as much as I like the guys who swagger around boasting about how many women they've had sex with and give demonstrations on how he "gave it to them 'UH!!'".

In other words, I don't like them.

Basically, they are the same kind of person.

I like people who don't go out of their way to sell you on something I couldn't care less about.

Honestly, I'm surprised they don't have a new spinoff series called, "Star Trek: Progress" and the entire crew is LGBT. They go around the galaxy making friends and space rainbows. Takei could reprise his role, but with the character having come out, or just play a new character and show his fabulous inner self.

My I ask for a definition and context of the word "concentration camp"? I am certainly not a Trump supporter, but as a German and historian, I am offended and shocked when someone uses a term that is associated with the worst genocide in human history in an ahistorical context. Concentration camps had existed before the Nazis rose to power, but they gave it a new and more terrible meaning due to their industrialized mass murder. Historian Roger Daniels once used the word concentration camps when discussing the internment camps for Japanese-Americans decades ago, but nobody would consider that term appropiate when actually researching about the Nazi crimes. What happened to the Nikkei during WWII was a crime and I cannot imagine the hardship that people in the camps at the border region are facing, but please stop using the term "concentration camp" without knowing its historical context. You make a fool out of yourself.

@BubbleBoy

Yes because the only victims can be black people. The only suffering, racism, discrimination, violence, assault and murder that counts is towards black people. Indians, Asians, Latino, indigenous people don't count. Only black people count. Make sense if you live inside a Bubble.

Sorry George, but you're a nutter. My high school girlfriend's parents were interned in the war years and lost their home and business in California. They were US citizens and were appalled by the attack on Pearl Harbor, but they persereved those dark days to recover that which they had lost because they loved USA.

George Takei, however, can't say as much. Sorry George, but your issues are unrelated to the police brutality issues. And the alleged police brutality issues are no excuse for the violence nor looting. Even if George Floyd had been an honorable person (which he was NOT!), there is no excuse nor constitutional right to rioting and looting!

Um... what? Not sure what you're talking about.

Indeed, I believe many of these police abuses are not related to diversity and racism. Many cops have been trained by Israelis, so no wonder they seem to treat everyone like Palestinians.

The comments Takei made on social media about JK Rowlings were not only inaccurate but disgusting.

That is true. Statistically speaking it will probably be a white man killed.

a total 429 civilians having been shot, 88 of whom were Black, as of June 4, 2020.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/

According to government statistics in 2019, 235 black people were shot

to death by police as opposed to 370 white, and 158 hispanics.  There

are 241 cases where the person's race is unknown.

https://wibx950.com/how-many-people-by-race-are-killed-by-police/

Police in the US are killing too many people and a disproportionate number ARE n minority groups, but the statistics clearly show that more whites people are killed. Police killings matter to everyone. The world isn't fair to most people, regardless of race.

No, they weren’t. Takei is an idiot and not because of his sexual orientation, who cares, but he feels he needs to excoriate anyone that disagrees with his über-liberal stance on the gender issue.

He's right to do so, hence his good and cool comments.
