No big revelation about race & cultural differences here. West Side Story was a story of lovers from different ‘sides of town’, derived from the theme penned best in Romeo and Juliet.

- “ The gangs -- the Puerto Rican Sharks and white Jets -- are "really fighting about race," the 74-year-old director said.” -

Of course, Spielberg will ensure the ‘happy ending’ in his take on the story.

I can't wait to not watch it!

Wonder if Steven will feature his adopted daughter, Mikaela George, a recent entrant into the porn business, in this remake about "race, politics"? That would be really PC, huh, Steve?

Anyone ever heard of "Cats- The Movie"? lol. I expect this to be equally appalling.

But don't worry, I won't care either way...

Given the open hispaniphobic attitude displayed in America during the past few years, it is political. However, it is also very much like 'Romeo and Juliet' and can be interpretted in various ways. That's the timeless magic here.

Get lost Spielberg. You preach open borders, liberalism and ultra diversity for the world, but closed borders and a heavily armed and defended ethnostate for a certain place in the Near East. Stick your propaganda.

America is in the middle of race war. No musical can change the fact that America and the west is in serious trouble.

The headline uses this utterly racist word "race". Aren't we living in the 21. c.? Don't we know better by now?

There is no race but humanity. Race refers to species that are genetically so different from each other, they can't reproduce with one another. I doubt that this counts for humans, even if they are black Africans, Asians or white Caucasian.

Ethnicity or ethnic group is the correct definition for what's meant here. Sombody, who doesn't understand the difference, could be easily considered a racist.

Oh look, another unoriginal movie.

What is it with liberals and race? I just don't get it.

"What is it with liberals and race? I just don't get it."

What is it with conservatives and willful blindness? Unfortunately, I DO get it.

Certain changes were inevitable for a modern remake -- not least ensuring that none of the Latino parts were played by white actors.

Good effort by the director.

They just want to divide America, and at their core, they hate many American values.

What is it with conservatives and willful blindness?

You mean 'color blindness.'

Well, a Libyan, or Syrian, or Egyptian director can preach whatever ideology you are expecting a US director to preach, and make their own version of a movie.

What about subtitles for people who are hearing impaired?

A lot of the potential audience only speak English as a second language, and few are fluent in Spanish.

Political correctness gone too far.

I've read this remake is "so good, it's almost as good as the original."

Why not watch the original?

Fantastic, when I sit down after a hard day's work to relax and be entertained race and politics is exactly what I want to see, Hollywood has it's finger truly on the pulse.

Good point.

The far left cancel culture would be up in arms if people were to watch Natalie Wood, a caucasian, play a Latina in the original.

Bad news.

Oh good. Just what I want to do during these insane days.

Put my feet up and unwind with a movie pushing politics and race.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Bass, everything has to do with race especially by conservative Whites, who see their influence in America diminish, when other whites look down on them

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I agree the far left cancel culture is primarily white people.

Though the percentage of white people in the far-right cancel culture is much, much higher. Look at everyone who has been canceled for pointing out that Trump lost the election, and look at the people who canceled them. All white.
