Why would she do something so stupid? Just another ‘slap in the face’ to sexual assault victims everywhere, this time by Cosby’s TV ‘wife’. There’s No Doubt that what happened to those women was wrong.
Let’s watch the disgraceful backpedaling now.
theFu
Their two lives have been tied together for 30+ yrs. They are good friends. I'd bet they each consider the other "family". It is a human trait to support your family no matter what. Attempting to hold someone accountable for supporting family is wrong.
snowymountainhell
Like Carlos Ghosn, Cosby will now enjoy *his** freedom, … while Rashad is “cancelled” *for her foolish support.
Sadly, despite Rashad’s “legacy of activism & support for the arts & diversity”, many of her past supporters will now seek to dismantle and destroy Her.… and Cosby skates away.
Numan
@snowymountainhell
No decent person believes that sexual assault is ok. That is a "Strawman argument". That is not what the conversation is about. The US is on paper a country of laws for the people by the people. There might have been information that the original prosecutor knew about that made them choose not to prosecute. The current prosecutor knew that and may have been motivated to prosecute to simply make a name for themselves in the political spectrum.
What if she actually believes that he is innocent? What if being a friend and coworker for many years has given her access to parts of the situation that most do not know about? What if all the good he has done significantly outweighed all the bad. Remember the founding fathers were all slave owners?
White America love to ignore all the systemic racism, violence and abuse that they have committed against minorities and women in the US.
If Cosby is truly guilty and/o evil person then he will be judged accordingly someday.

Then, where are the Cosby’s TV “kids”? @theFu 7:36am:
They’re absent and/or reluctant to speak. One is even angry the show reruns are ‘off the air’, losing out on money from their childhood labour. They’re smart to stay silent NOW, lest they be “cancelled” as well.
snowymountainhell
Here’s something from some of Cosby’s TV kids:

No different from my comments here on JT. I've had five positive comments about Cosby erased by this site so far. I'm sure this'll be the sixth.
Good on Rashad for not having others tell her what to think.
snowymountainhell
It wasn’t an ‘argument’, @Numan 7:56am. It is a ‘question’ of Rashad’s chosen public actions, to which some will now hold HER accountable. - “*That is what the conversation is about*.”
Agreed: “No decent person believes that sexual assault is ok.”
Her choice: “What if she actually believes that he is innocent?”
A good question: “What if being a friend & coworker for many years has given her access to parts of the situation that most do not know about?”
What if? Well then, perhaps she should have come forward with support [which she did]
… or ‘*testimony’ if** she did know something detrimental to Cosby and to support the victims and in the interest of ‘justice for all’. (Perhaps look at that @8:09am link?)***
Agreed: “If Cosby is truly guilty and/or [an] evil person, then he will be judged accordingly, someday.”
Agreed: As people of color, we need to support victims always, and sometimes, those possibly wrongfully accused so they may find “justice for all”.Other than Rashad’s current issues here, you may debate others on the other issues you present. - ‘Peace to you and All.’

Choose your figureheads with care. Maybe follow Japan and run with a cute mascot instead.
This is a problem for Howard. They can justify not sacking her, as people should have a right to voice their own opinions, however unpopular. But a lot of people will not want to be photographed with her or associated with her given her comments. That's going to be expensive for them, and awkward on campus.
A good lesson for the students though. Legal systems are not there to deliver justice. It's just a game of due process played by lawyers and weighted in favour of the wealthy. The judiciary and the executive are equally untrustworthy. Have faith in neither.
snowymountainhell
Btw @numan 7:56, there is one ‘informal fallacy’ on your part, almost overlooked, that you slipped in there, that should be addressed before the day moves forward:
As written, it may infer, *perhaps, *You too, may have doubt of his assertions of ‘innocence’ from the alleged charges?
In the current justice system in many U.S. jurisdictions, a ‘convicted’ persons past benevolent actions may only be considered in the ‘sentencing’ phase of serving ‘equal justice under the law’.
It should Never be a factor, Nor a consideration, in the competent investigations and fair prosecutions of alleged criminal acts.
Furthermore. Your introduction of racism and other U.S. issues into this conversation is unwarranted here. However, it is acknowledge that is was frustration in the last 24 hours in that Cosby’s release was opened and inexplicably closed quickly, before many could have their say about Cosby’s assertions of systemic racism.
In closing, regarding Phylicia Rashad’s actions reported here, to your @7:56am rebuke:
itsonlyrocknroll
I adored the, Cosby Show, have the all the DVD, however before and after, Bill Crosby is a convicted sex offender. Freed on a technically! No escape from that fact.
virusrex
Being a public figure comes with many advantages and disadvantages, public declarations having lots of consequences is part of both. She has the freedom to express herself in any way she wants, but so are the people that call this specific case contradictory with her position, even if only because of lack of common sense.
itsonlyrocknroll
Phylicia Rashad , expressed an heart felt opinion......
After the ruling, Rashad tweeted a picture of Cosby, with the message: “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted — a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”
However soon railed back......
I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.
Both feet in mouth, it is a miracle can catch a breath?
snowymountainhell
She passed ‘her feet in mouth’ @itsonlyroknroll 9:58am: and now, may be ‘up to her ankles’.
What about “ the truth” ??
*“… their truth.”*
More unrealistic backpedaling. This still infers “their truth” may *be different from “The Truth ”.Even these current idiomatic expressions like “*my truth, your truth, their truth” *don’t fully acknowledged “The Truth” of ‘reality versus individual justifications’.
It can be used out of context against her and possibly, deservedly so, for failing to acknowledge Cosby’s alleged victims.
itsonlyrocknroll
snowymountainhell, god help me, I laugh out loud, Bill Crosby humor, gentle, clever. I was 12.
My dad brought me the DVD as a birthday present.
To hear your heroes, are sex pests, or worst, is frankly soul destroying
itsonlyrocknroll
Oscar Wilde said that we always destroy the thing we love the most.
Bill Crosby must be held fully accountable. And accept penitence, no if's
I am a fan.

He dies in prison

They all made us laugh, @itsonlyrocknroll 10;45am, it was all part of NBC’s Thurs night “Must See TV”. Many people at the time, regardless of their alluded to financial prosperity, idealized more the familial relationships than anything else, as something to aspire.
Even 7th Heaven’s Stephen Collins was (your words:) a “sex pest”. However, when publicly confronted, he admitted to the incidents. He has contacted and privately addressed his past actions toward one victim. He was openly remorseful and also published a statement, claiming full responsibility for the other 2 “flasher” incidents as well, “20, 30 & 40years ago. (*He was advised to wait to be contacted in reference to his other two victims.) He was never prosecuted for any criminal act yet, humbly has retreated from any kind of public or celebrity life.
Can’t respect these people or any of their past criminal actions. Just enjoyed the entertainment they brought at that time.
Phylicia Rashad’s portrayayed Claire, a no-nonsense supportive wife & mother to her TV family “The Huxtables”. - Perhaps she should have left that and her support of arts and diversity as her legacy.
snowymountainhell
Unknown *@itsonlyrocknroll 11:07am** what Phylicia Rashad’s and Bill Cosby’s fates will now be, but perhaps we have to keep ‘the conversation about’ and centered around Phylicia Rashad, lest the thread immoderately be restricted and abruptly closes like yesterday?*
https://japantoday.com/category/world/bill-cosby’s-sex-assault-conviction-overturned-by-court -No idea why that happened. It was more the opportunity to address some salient points to issues like those proposed by @numan 7:56am today. It must have been frustrating for some in the last 24 hours to not be able to address the implications of Cosby’s release. Perhaps some will allow it to continue here. ?
itsonlyrocknroll
If we don't enjoy what we desire the most, yes desire is the word, then what are we left with?
Phylicia Rashad, whether we agreed, or disagree, is a matter of opinion.
What is not in question, Bill Crosby must be held accountable for his alleged crimes.
snowymountainhell
One additional on-topic question here is also the very ‘quizzical’ yet, comical expression on the woman with Cosby in the accompanying photos to this Phylicia Rashad story. What’s with that possibly, mid-speech expression that looks like “*giving the raspberry*” to cameras, while sporting a right arm tattoo that may in fact, read “*GUILTY*”?
snowymountainhell
Who is she? From the photo caption, it’s unknown:
itsonlyrocknroll
I view the dvd, it perfection, well written, Bill Crosby leads, he wonderfully mumbles.
That's the whole point, what Phylicia Rashad, and I, cut from the same cloth, we won't or accept the laugher stops.
itsonlyrocknroll
He is a wasted old fool, also fun to watch, he could a punch line.
He blew it bog time for all his fans Zipped it up. Men

Jelani Cobb, a Columbia University journalism professor and frequent New Yorker magazine contributor, tweeted directly to Howard University, bluntly stating: “This person should not be a Dean.”
Choice words coming from a journalism professor.
Would be interesting to see the reaction if Jelani Cobb's speech were to be censored.
Bob Fosse
It is his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean. She is responsible for getting him released.
englisc aspyrgend
He has been released (right or wrong) on a legal technicality. The court did not in any way say he was innocent of the crimes he had been sent to prison for.
His victims are understandably angry that he is free and in effect can be seen as having “got away with” his crimes.
This can be seen as and the victims do see it as a slap in the face for them and all victims of sex crimes.
Rashad’s comments need to be seen in the light of this. They are insensitive at best and undoubtedly foolish not to mention likely to embarrass anyone connected to her and damage both her career and reputation.
snowymountainhell
Thanks @BobFosse 7:10pm for the clarification to the @11:52am post.
She only had a one sentence acknowledgement in yesterday’s article: Bill Cosby freed from prison after sex conviction overturned - Jul 1:
No reason’s given as to why she wasn’t acknowledged in today’s photo caption, nor why yesterday’s comment thread was abruptly postponed @8:52am, reopened @4:52 and then, quickly shut down again. (“Ours is not to reason why” but the question still remains “why?”.) Seems “Hot Topics” can be overwhelming for some if not ‘taken in moderation.
So then, @11:55am, that quizzical picture today was her, obviously in “mid-sentence” and, *her tattoo actually reads: “NOT GUILTY**”.*
“https://www.latestcelebarticles.com/jennifer-bonjean/Once again,* @Bob, +*hanks for always keeping us on our toes.
snowymountainhell
Well stated @engliscaspyrgend 8:43pm. This article and the resulting comments, ‘for’ or ‘against’ Phylicia Rashad’s actions, are NOT about any form of racism, despite some trying to introduce into the thread:
Your comments, for clarification of the writer’s intent, is worth reposting:
Understood: “to disagree with someone is not racist.”

So glad for him. He was being railroaded.

BC admitted himself he got the 714s for the women he wanted to lay. He admitted it! 62 different women who don't know each other is no smearing. He did it. I didn't want to believe it but he reacted disruptively like rapists often do when they're found guilty.
I am too but rapist is a rapist and a criminal. Evidence and allegations have been building up over the years and a fact is a fact. Bill Cosby is a sex offending monster. He pioneered in Black Americans in TV, comedy, education and he threw it all away with his vicious crimes. Just like the pioneering Aussie rocker Rolf Harris and UK superstar Gary Glitter. Shame!
