I think your missing it. Softbank's payment plan is called the White plan, hence the "Shirato" Family name. That's why their mascot is a white dog. Its a play on words (granted not a clever one) but that's why it works.

I have to admit, I love these ads. They are the only ones that don't make me roll my eyes or change the channel. They're clever and funny. And who doesn't love a cute, talking dog??
