The point of the vaccine is:

To make it less likely you will get Covid-19

To greatly reduce the chance you will need hospitalization and die if you get it

To reduce the spread of the virus, and therefore the possibility it will mutate into a more dangerous version

This is the point of all vaccines. Few vaccines give 100% protection. It all depends on the virulence and mutability of the virus, and how widespread it is in the population among other factors such as personal underlying conditions, sanitation etc.

What is going on here? The article says the performance for Sep. 2nd was canceled... that's nearly one month ago. Did they mean Oct. 2nd?

Furthermore, my phone says that Sep. 2nd was a Thursday this year, not a Wednesday. And Oct. 2nd is a Saturday. Nothing is adding up here.

Moderator: That was a mistake by AP.

Equating the closing of society, destruction of livelihoods and mass printing of money to fund all that is nothing like a car accident and seat belts.

The comparison do not depend on the measures taken for breakthrough cases, but on the failed expectation for anything to be 100% effective or else it can only be "useless".

Also, measures depend competely if Infections are happening while the population is already in herd immunity or not, and that is not something exclusive of COVID, an outbreak of measles for example is treated completely different in a city where 99% of the people have been vaccinated and in a city where only 50% are, the consequences identifying cases in each situation justify contrasting measures.

Life never goes back to a semblance of normal if every infection causes this type of overreaction.

Equating the closing of society, destruction of livelihoods and mass printing of money to fund all that is nothing like a car accident and seat belts.

"Fully vaxxed" persons apparently spreading the virus. Shocker.

So what’s the point of the vaccine again?

Reducing the risk, the same as many other measures, even when nothing is 100% effective.

Do you read news about a driver dying on a traffic accident and ask what is the point of seat belts and airbags?

made it 1 day. but not just 1 case.

"breakthrough COVID-19 cases have been detected
