"Resident Evil 2" has been back on our radar recently thanks to some impressive fan projects. Today, though, it’s the professionals who’re shining the spotlight on the second installment of the series, as developer Capcom has officially announced that it’s remaking the survival horror classic.

Like the zombies that feature so prominently in the franchise, multiple titles in the "Resident Evil" family have risen again with new versions for more powerful hardware. The latest chapter to get this treatment is "Resident Evil 2," which was first released for the PlayStation in 1998. Breaking the news was "Resident Evil" producer Yoshiaki “H” Hirabayashi, who appears in the English-subtitled announcement video below.

While Hirabayashi doesn’t specify a release date or platform for the new "Resident Evil 2," there’s still plenty for fans to be happy about. For starters, he tells viewers that development is going to proceed while taking into consideration feedback from gamers themselves. What’s more, it doesn’t look like Capcom is limiting its definition of “feedback” to reactions inside Japan, as throughout the video Hirabayashi refers to the game and series by its internationally used name, "Resident Evil," instead of its domestic one, "Biohazard."

There’s also the fact that Hirabayashi uses the term “remake” in talking about the "Resident Evil 2" project, in contrast to the upcoming Resident Evil 0 “HD remaster” he also mentions. The difference in terminology seems to imply that the "Resident Evil 2" remake is not just the old game with a new wardrobe of modern graphics, but that it will also include an update and streamlining of its nearly 20-year-old gameplay systems.

And then, of course, there’s Hirabayashi’s obvious enthusiasm for the remake.

Hirabayashi signs off by promising to keep fans updated as development continues, and given the special place "Resident Evil 2" has in the hearts of so many, we’re sure plenty of people will be waiting.

I agree, no originality from japan. They cant think outside the box cause they're stuck in a bubble.

Just like a movie sometimes things just don't need a remake. Move on and make something new, not working something old. Money and creatively spent elsewhere.

Dioblo 3- not FPS Broke age - not FPs Batman Arkham Knight - not FPS Witcher 3 - not FPS Blood Borne - not FPS Last of Us - not FPS Dark Souls 2 - not FPS Transistor - not FPS Saints Row 4 - not FPS Defense Grid 2 - not FPS

Ten of best games I finished in the last year. None of them are FPS games and only one Japanese company among them (From Software). I don't need to argue with you because all you need to do is look up actual facts. Japanese developed games sales are decreasing every month outside of Japan. Inside Japan mobile games rule and Japenese game companies simply don't care if their products even leave Japan anymore. They make plenty of cash making tiny little cell phone games and they are fine with that. Why do you think Konami fired Kojima? Because they are shutting down their console division and turning over to mobile games.

Most creative games are Japanese? Maybe 15 years ago.

I use to play this on my old original play station nearly twenty years ago. It was pretty 'clunky' and slow compared to new games these days. Rewriting the game to suit today's level of graphics and processor speeds will bring back a classic game. I hope they don't change the story too much.

" most creative video are japanese, the west is filled with fps"

Nonsense...best two RPGs in last 10 years have been western...Fallout3 and Skyrim. And last two Biohazard games have been terrible. I agree that too many FPS though. Call of Duty is going down hill.

Robert Dykes, are you serious ? most creative video are japanese, the west is filled with fps

Just another sign Japanese video game designers are continuing to sink into the ocean. Capcom hasn't had an original idea or game in nearly 10 years. The only company making anything original is From Software and to some degree Nintendo (but I am not sure if you can call Mario Kart 8 and endless Zelda remakes and Smash Bros sequels original)

I'd rather have them quit making remakes and HD editions and advance the storyline with new original stories.
