Gotta love far right preachers of hate, posing as religious. A wee bit hypocritical, dontcha think?
Damn him for his behaviour towards women, not his art or lampooning fascists.

'Modern Times' was used for a 20th century history class in my college. And it rightfully predicted quite a number of things and said somethings about the past too. And it was funny!
Gotta love that Charlie!

Great I will go to see it for sure, thank you JT.

I just pray the cancel crowd doesn’t block or censor any of his movies.

Anti-Nazism will always seem "degenerate" to some people.
What sort of people I'm sure you can divine for yourself.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
He was a subversive, pedophile, and a massive hypocrite. His "art" was degenerate.

Lived near his gaff and drunk in his local pub, but don’t like his personal life.

And rightly so.
As with the likes of Woody Allen and Polanski, it is difficult to separate the men from the art.
I am certainly not blind to Chaplin's disturbing fondness for teenagers. Obviously, that does tend to tarnish his image.
I stand by my description of him as a genius, but do not condone his behaviour.

Yes, everybody was worshipping Chaplin. But a guy who went after the very young girls as he did would never survive in today’s Hollywood.

Such a genius. From the early silents to the likes of Monsieur Verdoux.
Chaplin, Keaton, The Marx Brothers and suchlike. Great stars and visionaries.
Can never understand why. Not only are these brilliant films but they are a window into the past.

Yes @Random. ‘Child stars’ today owe their protected interests to him. His mother and step-father (the family’s ‘financial advisor’) squandered his deceased father’s conservation of Jackie’s hard earned $3-4 million (+$50m in 2021).Their theft and the legal battle left him only $126,000. (Chaplin helped him out with some money as well, later.)
The 1939 enactment of the California Child Actor's Bill, the "Coogan Act", requires that a child actor's employer set aside 15% of the earnings in a trust and specifies the actor's schooling, work hours, and time off.

Still moved by the end of “The Great Dictator". No Spoilers. Some people don’t like B&W films or slapstick but recommend watching the entire movie. It makes the end more powerful.

A genius who through his character showed grace and compassion and could make people laugh in times of hardship. Don't forget that the US government labeled him a communist, and so he remained in exile in Switzerland. His films and message are timeless and still relevant, a true humanitarian, and anti-fascist.

The kid is Jackie Coogan, aka Uncle Fester.
