Wow. Suddenly I‘m a fan of his.

I for one am glad that respected people are not scared to speak out against woke garbage.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Dreyfuss said correctly what a lot of people are too afraid to say nowadays.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

If he can't speak his opinions, don't invite him.

If you don't invite him because of his own general opinions, don't pretend to be inclusive.

We deeply regret that Mr. Dreyfuss's comments during the event were not in line with the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold at The Cabot. We understand that his remarks were distressing and offensive to many of our community members, and for that, we sincerely apologize.”

Were his comments false? Dis he say something factually incorrect? If not, then The Cabot is non-inclusive of the truth.

Richard Dreyfuss comments about women, LGBTQ+ people and diversity lead venue to apologize

All the ones celebrating Dreyfuss' speaking out against the 'woke, trans LGBT' agenda are more illustrative of their own issues.

walked onstage wearing a blue, floral-patterned dress that stage workers helped him remove before he put on a sport coat.

It is clear Dreyfuss has some issues that may require a medical intervention.

Says more about the desperate grasping of rightists than anything though.

A large part of the acting fraternity is LGBT. They'll send him to Coventry.

Yeah, we're the ones with issues! ha.

Ah great way to back up you viewpoint, by calling him crazy. Fantastic.

Clearly.

All the screeching come from the woke and even more hysterically, from those who get upset and triggered about the woke.

Two sides of the same coin.

I wonder if older white men, like Dreyfuss, get upset by inclusivity, LGBT and all that mostly because they know that they aren't good enough to compete if everyone is allowed to join.

Unfortunate. I enjoyed Jaws growing up, so I'm a little sad to see his real life persona show a lack of understanding.. especially someone of his years and experience.

He could have used to celebrity to do more good. It's not too late.

Everyone is allowed to join. I doubt that a man in a dress will be putting Dreyfuss out of work.

Especially because people paid $300 USD each to hear him talk about the Jaws movie and his acting career, instead of going into this unrelated rant

Here's some of what he seems to have said:

https://www.reddit.com/r/massachusetts/comments/1d1j339/anyone_know_what_happened_at_the_cabot_with/

"Went off the rails talking about how Barbra Streisand is a genius but he didn't listen to her because she is a woman and women shouldn't have that power. Then started sharing his views on the me too movement and started down the road on how you shouldn't be listening to some 10 year old who says they want to to be a boy instead of a girl... Jesus Christ what an explosion. Crowd was shouting at him and most walked out before the movie even started. Talk about the movie a**hole... We never made it to that. " " She brilliant but an idiot, you know woman are so passive that's why the movie sucked " Also Steven Spielberg is a genius but an idiot and close encounters only worked because he convinced spielberg to hire him instead of gene Hackman for the part

"I was there - he talked about how he didn’t like working with Barbra [Streisand] because she wasn’t ‘submissive to him enough as a woman’, and then went on about how he doesn’t support MeToo or LGBT, and how 10-year-olds shouldn’t be able to get surgery. Later on he jabbed the crowd by mentioning his ‘famous Republican friends’ and so on," one person wrote. "Just felt really bizarre and out of place. About 20 to 30 people walked out, not ‘hundreds’ like some articles state."

Another person also said the actor made some "snide sexist comments" about how Streisand was difficult to work with because she was a "woman who should be submissive."

NBC 10 Boston reported that audience members said their tickets cost about $300 apiece.

“He was there to speak about Jaws and his acting career. Nobody needs to hear him spewing filthy hate speech about the LGBTQ+ and transgender communities. He’s more than welcome to his opinions, but hate speech has no place in a public forum,” one Facebook user wrote on the Cabot’s page.

“I’d be upset if I paid to see an event and thought he was doing a QandA about a beloved classic film and it turned into a rant about unrelated things - no matter what he was ranting about. Demented and entitled Boomer,” another added.

How so?

I think he was making a point and did so eloquently.

Says more about the desperate grasping of rightists than anything though.

The man is nowhere near right politically.

Dreyfuss has previously said the academy's diversity efforts “make me want to vomit.”

He's right. You can be respectful and inclusive to others without corporations and institutions shoving it down your throat.

He wasn 't invited to give a speech on the soapbox. As for the women/gay/whatever 'issues', why is he sassing off the mouth about it all now? He's had to work with all such people throughout his career whether he knows it or not.

There are some good women actors as well as good 'nonwhite' (a nebulous definition) and gay actors out there. Either you got the talent for the job, or you don't.

'Jaws' is certainly a classic but look at its sequels. Trash!

And look at the industry today. How about complaining about Hollywood's completely vapid lack of originality/creativity/inspiration instead? The well of inspiration has completely run DRY.
