What she’s done is an incredible feat. She is valued at more than some incredibly successful people in the business.

Musician? I doubt. More like someone who sells skin more than music.

I agree. That rip-off song where she took the 1982 Soft Cell classic 'Tainted Love', erased the vocals and then added her own IS NOT BEING A MUSICIAN. It's called plagiarism, pirating, and other musical crimes. She did get my sympathy when Chris Brown beat her up because nobody should have to undergo that abuse.

Then she put out 'S & M' where says she likes whips and chains. SMH.

Did Dire Straits have this in mind with that hit 'Money For Nothing' because it sure looks like it to me.

There are plenty of real honest-to-God female musicians out there, all over the world who are better than this. Let's see them!

Not as long as it is under five bars or seven seconds of a song. If that is the case then it is not plagiarism or pirating, if it is over that then the original artist has the right to file a lawsuit and demand compensation. As long as you get permission and you explain what you’re doing, and it does guidelines it should be OK.

Rihanna is a musician. She started out more of a soca artist that went towards reggae until she ultimately blended pop, rock, and r&b, and edm. Furthermore, have you listened to almost all music these days? Do you honestly think they are all original? Musicians sample other musicians all the time. She’s a real musician to me.

Also, she’s not an artist because she shows skin. However, Madonna, one of the pioneers of using sex as her weapon is a respected musician?

She'll likely give most of it away because she believes in charity.

'Sampling' should not mean erasing the lyrics and planting your own on somebody else's song. I refer to Vanilla Ice vs. Queen and David Bowie in 1990.

And while showing some skin is quite alright with me, in the game of music (and videos) it's sound AND vision as David Bowie foretold decades ago before MTV. Madonna herself has not done anything musically memorable for about 30 years. For her it's been more about image, sexuality and style with no substance. It's about kissing Britney Spears and mocking Jesus on a cross and doing porn. She's now more a construct than a woman.

Maybe Rihanna can be a real musician when she wants to be but it seems to me that her recent success has made her a bit lazy. And BTW, most popular (corporate) music today just plain sucks - unintelligent, derivative, egotistical and just not very interesting. The best 'modern' music is the 'indy'/underground scene that plays at the small clubs these days - there's plenty of very good serious artists and bands in that scene because they LOVE what they are doing - music.
