Cool!

America has a Beatles stamp with just a yellow submarine on it. We can't have living people on stamps. It's only natural that Britain would celebrate them in this manner. Pink Floyd? Didn't know they had those out. Now how about the Rolling Stones?

Sad how rock has been coopted by the mainstream society. Inevitable I suppose.

Well, I nominate Rush for a stamp, long overdue.

Not British and these stamps seem to be given to UK acts. They were never that big in the UK in the way the Beatles, Pink Floyd or Queen were. Not at the same level. Even in the US, I saw Rush ranks 79th on in album sales. In the UK, I don’t think they break the top 100.

They were an okay band but the vast majority of British people would be puzzled. If you included overseas artists, I could think of a long list of artists which wouldn’t include Rush for this award.

Have the Canadians honoured them?

Rush are a Canadian band?

Yup!

But they were inducted into the RHF, not to mention wrote fantastic musical pieces often extremely complicated and odd time signatures, not a lot of bands could work cohesively and especially as a trio and write music the way they did.

Well, each to his own, it’s quite different listening to music as a person playing the music, I think most professional musicians would side on Rush in that regard, but again, not taking anything from Queen, each member had a unique skill that gave the band its style, but I remember when I was a kid, Queen back in the day wasn’t a band that was taken always seriously especially in 1981 when they band released their “Hot Space” Definitely not one of the bands finer moments and it just added to the dismay and scorn of music critics and radio DJ’s that the band was somewhat of a joke, they did however come up with better material as the years rolled on, but I do think Queen deserves it. It’s sad that these critics didn’t give the band their due until Freddie died, but better now late than never.

Have the Canadians honoured them?

Yes as well in the States. Being inducted into the RHF just doesn’t get any better.

You like Rush. Some people like Taylor Swift. Some like Ed Sheeran. Some like Queen. Some like all of them. I love Half Man Half Biscuit and regard Nigel Blackwell as arguably the finest lyricist the UK has produced but they don’t warrant a stamp.

The fact remains they are simply not big enough or well-known enough to warrant the kind of recognition given to Queen. I’m not a big Queen fan but I can see and respect their talent and see the incredible record sales in the UK and worldwide. Rush aren’t on the same planet in this sense. Thankfully, this kind of recognition isn’t based on the opinions of music snobs, or even worse, music critics.

This isn’t about complicated compositions or odd time signatures.

Do the people that write these articles bother to do any research. The opening sentence is wrong, UK postage stamps always portray the monarch. And these Queen stamps are no big deal, British achievers and icons have been represented for years. The best stamps were the Doctor Who ones, and the set featuring iconic comedians.
