Roseanne always an obnoxious loudmouth. Adios!

My first thought was 'Oops Roseanne's done it now'. Then I looked up a picture of Valerie Jarrett and I couldn't tell she was black either. I talked to a coworker (who happened to be black. Shocker!) and he didn't know who Valerie Jarrett was until Roseanne's comment and still thought Jarrett was on old white woman. In fact, I know more people of color upset that her show is gone than care about her dumb comment.

Roseanne is a borderline crazy old lady, but I really don't think she is a racist. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the truth.

There is no doubt that referring to black people in any kind of simian reference is racist, and that racists have bandied this about plenty over history.

Aye.

And of course the unpleasant slur on Soros. Pure conspiracy filth.

Which of course, was re-tweeted by Don Jnr.

Ghastly woman, dreadful show, no loss.

She's not 100%. She's old, a little off, and definitely a conspiracy theorist, which is what I believe led her to being a Trump supporter.

I would probably agree with all that.

At the end of the day, I think she is a genuinely decent person.

I hope she turns what is now her free time into something productive to get her mind focused. I think she needs a mental focus.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

She doesn't seem 100% mentally. And I don't mean her normal personality, I mean the impact of a cocktail of drugs over a prolonged period. Prescription drugs.

I listened to her on Joe Rogan in 2013ish when she was on the first time, as well as when she was on again recently.

She's not 100%. She's old, a little off, and definitely a conspiracy theorist, which is what I believe led her to being a Trump supporter.

After listening to her talk for a good 5-6 hours in those two time periods, I not only don't get the impression she is a racist, on the contrary I see her as more of a layperson who throws their towel in with the oppressed. There is no doubt that referring to black people in any kind of simian reference is racist, and that racists have bandied this about plenty over history. That said, I don't think that she intentionally referred to the woman as an ape from that racist-against-black-people perspective. I think she made a comment that was stupid in the first place, and in Twitter warring, if you get burnt, it's kind of your own fault. But I don't think the post was intentionally racist, nor do I think she was intentionally racist either. She's just a little batty, and said something being ignorant to what it was going to mean.

No doubt she is yet another victim of a leftist witch hunt. Sad.

This will all come back to bite the left one day.

Isn't Valerie Jarrett, woman Roseanne mocked, more successful than Roseanne herself is?

Depends on how you classify success. I've personally known who Roseanne is for like 30 years, whereas I never heard of the woman she insulted until she got insulted.

Who will spare a thought for the insanely rich and bigoted out there?

The PC rule of terror already has most of the entertainment industry bending over backwards to pretend and conform to ridiculous degrees.

Oh, for the old days when you could be as racist as you like, without fear of reprisal.

Who will spare a thought for the insanely rich and bigoted out there?

I'm sure that Barr will get plenty of mileage out of this, as will her new fanbase.

I think ruining her livelihood and that of many actors who work with her is extreme, immature and vindictive.

In fairness, all the actors who worked with her are now working on this new show, so its really only Roseanne that was left out of work.

I'm not too sure if cancelling the series was overkill on the network's part, arguments could go both ways. On the one hand, I don't think its fair to fire someone just for one tweet unless the circumstances really warrant it. And in the circumstances she did make a pretty convincing apology which definitely leans me towards her side.

On the other, if this had been any regular worker who tweeted something racist they'd have been unemployed immediately and worried about feeding themselves and we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Roseanne is a multi millionaire with more money than she knows what to do with, so its not like this is a hardship for her. So I'm not super sympathetic.

The left can celebrate this latest casualty.

I'm left, and I'm not celebrating it. Why would I? Like most of the left, I'm not hyper-partisan, and I don't agree with the extremists.

Wait, you weren't doing that silly thing where just because someone on the left says something, you think all people on the left agree with it, were you? I thought only people of really low intelligence do that. So you can't have been doing that... right?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Yeah, unfortunately the drug OD bit is a very hot topic right now. But I'm not going to miss the show.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I was never a fan of Roseanne, but killing her off with a drug overdose seems a little petty on the network's part.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Never understood why she was famous, she has this nasal monotonous voice

3 ( +5 / -2 )

And this is the death of an actress career because her racism, hate and ignorance; fueled by the "fascist in chief" of the white house.. There is no place in modern world for hate..

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Good riddance to this racist.

"Sensitivity training" - Its Monty Pythonesque! Such is what we have come to in the west.

"should invite sensitivity training...".

OMG, George Orwell was so precient.

Hmm. When she did her "rendition" of your national anthem, I recall her being absolutely lambasted by uber-patriots. Now she's a hero to some because of her bigotry.

How very odd.

Wishing the cast and creators of the new show the very best.

Roseanne Barr is one of the few women to succeed at a very high level in Hollywood based on merit, being an extremely funny comedian and good actor. Her comments were insensitive and offensive and should invite sensitivity training but she apologized vigorously and I think ruining her livelihood and that of many actors who work with her is extreme, immature and vindictive.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

The new show will fail without her.

The others, with the exception of the big guy are a collection of nobodies.

if they’d stood by her they may have gotten a few seasons work. But no, she made them, and they just let her take the hits.

you go girl. Come back stronger than ever.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

I watched the revival last season and the new season. I liked the revival. I think they’ve lost it without her. I had some good solid laughs last season, but none from the new episode.

They should have just roughed it out. The angriest people already forgot. Although they would have dug it back up had she come back.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

I knew that her name was now household dirt, but had forgotten why.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Another victim of the PC movement.

RIP
