Don’t. Just don’t.

"Russian diplomacy used to be serious. What next? Mr. Bean?" said a U.N. Security Council diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Anonymous - a fitting description of the UN Security council as a whole.

Maybe what he'd like to say is "Give Peace a Chance"?

"Comfortably Numb" won't cut the mustard when dealing with Russian fascists.

The 15-member Security Council has met dozens of times since Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine last Feb. 24. But it is unable to take any action because Russia is a veto power, along with the United States, China, Britain and France.

A perfect reason to alter the allowable use of veto by the five lucky permanent members. They can veto all things except if they are involved in an invasion of another country for territorial gain, ie to annex territory. When accused of invasion and sufficient proof is available then their veto's are nullified. That would not stop China from using it's veto to protect Russia, but China wants the war to end as it has said before so depending on what is put forward, China might not veto it.

This power of veto should not be allowed to be abused, and should be temporarily removed from any member that is invading another UN member or independent state like Taiwan.

There is no point having security council meetings on the war when nothing can be done. it becomes a farce and waste of money holding them. We have seen for the past year, just how useless the security council becomes when a veto wielding nation invades someone for what amounts to "territorial rape" in my opinion.

@Peter14 Good luck with that.

Article 108

Amendments to the present Charter shall come into force for all Members of the United Nations when they have been adopted by a vote of two thirds of the members of the General Assembly and ratified in accordance with their respective constitutional processes by two thirds of the Members of the United Nations, including all the permanent members of the Security Council.

That being the case then all nations "NOT" permanent members of the UN security council should withdraw from the UN and create a new world organization that is able to be effective in keeping the peace, ensuring adequate food and health for all people and do everything people expect the UN to do, but fails to do all too often. No veto's or permanent members of any councils.

It is time for change, to correct broken processes, and to become a better civilization.

I agree with his criticism of Israel at least.

Putin knows he can kill as many Ukrainain as he want, and the world will not confront him on his home turf, Biden has never once mentioned, that Ukrainain will achieve victory, this should alarm any Ukrainain,

Polly Samson: “Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core.

The usual insult to anyone against Zionist ethnic cleansing on Palestinians, or any criticism of the apartheid state of Israel.

Waters is absolutely correct regarding the Ukraine conflict. Kudos to him for speaking out.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Unless and until the Russians bugger off out of Ukraine there won't be any peace - they're an invading, occupying force and need to be stopped and turned back. No amount of aging rock star Soviet-era apologists will change that.

The problem is that Putin is like one of those little thugs who comes up to you, punches you in the face, and if you try to retaliate he brings out the henchmen - in this case the henchmen are nuclear weapons. That nasty little nutter needs removed and THEN maybe there could be peace talks - at the moment it's like a Terrier and an insane Doberman going at each other

Polly Samson and David Gilmour are both very nice people. I knew her first husband Heathcote Williams who is the father of her son.

Pink Floyd

@pinkfloyd

Dec 24, 2022

Pink Floyd would like to thank everyone who has supported Hey, Hey, Rise Up. The single, recorded on 30th March with Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band Boombox, has so far raised over £450,000 to help alleviate the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

He use to be a good guy.

And now he is a great guy!

No, he's an amazing guy!!!

Waters said in August 2022: “This war is basically about the action and reaction of NATO pushing right up to the Russian border, which they promised they wouldn’t do when [Mikhail] Gorbachev negotiated the withdrawal of the USSR from the whole of Eastern Europe.”

He called Biden a “war criminal” and that he "is fueling the war in the Ukraine. That is a huge crime. Why won’t the United States of America encourage Zelensky to negotiate, obviating the need for this horrific, horrendous war?”

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The United Nations Security Council is an utterly toothless and useless organisation, ( 15 meetings, and not once condemned Russia), which has to be closed down and replaced with a more representative body of people who want to stand-up to maintain peace and world-order, and take-down the terrorist dictatorships which bring death, torture and misery to hundreds of millions of ordinary innocent people, namely the populations of Russia, China, North Korea, Syria, Myanmar, and countless more.

You only get the one chance of a life on this planet - how shocking it must be to endure the life in any of the above countries.

This war is basically about the action and reaction of NATO pushing right up to the Russian border,

yawn !

I thought it as about Nazis, no wait, it was about protecting Russian citizens rights, no wait, it was about …(add latest reason here)

Wow. Thumbs down to "Give Peace a Chance"....

Because we know that for you 'peace' really means, 'Ukraine should surrender'. You have no interest in Russia making peace, only Ukraine surrendering to make that unjust 'peace'.

Roger Waters is a complex character. He never met his father, who died in WW2 whilst Waters was an infant. Likewise his father never met his own father, who died in WW1. His entire life has been dominated by the tragedy of war. His amazing music reflects this.

Asking Ukraine to surrender is illogical and unfair. We should be putting the burden of making peace upon Russia. They are the aggressors.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Would be nice if he said Russia should pull out of Ukraine and let the UN arbitrate both parties over grievances they each have. The alternative is as has been said, total all out WW3 and as such the end of the Human Race.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Would be nice if he said Russia should pull out of Ukraine and let the UN arbitrate both parties over grievances they each have.

This is Russia's only logical option. Otherwise they're going to have no position whatsoever when they're evicted from Ukraine.

Would be nice if some western leaders said something similar.

LOL!
