Ryoko Yonekura to return for 4th season of 'Doctor X'

Ryoko Yonekura will reprise her role as a miniskirt-wearing doctor in the fourth season of TV Asahi's "Doctor X~surgeon Michiko Daimon" in October.

"Doctor X" revolves around the unusual lifestyle of a charismatic freelance surgeon, Michiko Daimon, played by Yonekura, who works at multiple hospitals. Michiko is not your average doctor -- oozing sex appeal and wearing miniskirts under her white coat. Under a special contract, which allows Michiko to leave her work at 5 p.m., she enjoys her “after 5” life by dancing at clubs, playing mahjong, and going to hot springs and public bathhouses. Her favorite phrase is: "I never fail."

At a news conference this week, Yonekura, 40, said she initially had no intention to revive her role when the third season of the popular series finished in 2014.

There are not many dramas that run more than one season on Japanese TV. But the viewing rate for the first three seasons has been high. The average rating for the first season was 19.1%, followed by 23% in season two and 22.9% for the third season, making the drama a hit for TV Asahi.

Yonekura, a former fashion model, who has also appeared on Broadway in "Chicago," revealed how she felt about the upcoming fourth season. “I have never had an opportunity to star in the same TV series for an extended run. Even if people expected it from me, I never had the confidence to respond to that type of expectation. However, Michiko Daimon is a role that I really like, and I feel like I’m able to take a new step forward by being able to reprise this role.”

Furthermore, she said that Michiko Daimon is “like a reflection of myself” and “stress-free” to portray. "For me, it is quite a comfortable role to return to."

It is very unusual for a drama to run more than one season on Japanese TV.

Well, no.

"Wataru Seken" ran for at least 10 seasons. "Aibo" has run for 14. "Abarenbo Shogun" has been on and off the air since 1978. "Mito Komon" has run since 1969.

And there are many others...

Agreed, lots of series to have been running for a very long time.

Happy that Dr. X is back, helps that the Actress is some eye-candy plus I like the theme music.

I don't watch a lot of tv, but this is clearly incorrect.

Actually it's a pretty good show. She's definitely a handful in that drama.

I'm absolutely definitely going to watch the fourth season.

I've caught bits of this show before. Like a lot of scripted J-Tv they mix genres. It'll go from deadly serious one minute to an almost slapstick scene the next. Which is it? Mixing genres is very jarring and confusing. I think I'd rather just look at my powered down TV than watch this.

So, it is Doctor-X, for some reason, I had Doctor Who in my mind.

DRLUCIFER : Here in the Michigan USA cultural wilderness, I must rely upon internet sites for Japanese drama and movies. For the most part - GOOD DRAMA . NET , ASIAN RICE , AND CRUNCHYROLL - have offered me lots interesting Japanese material with English subtitles. So far this media has allowed me to gain some understanding of the culture as perceived by the Japanese people and a little bit of the language. The language acquisition aspect is going very slow unfortunately, but without access to a teacher -student method nothing else seems possible. I really wish I could program and watch.

Ryoko Yonekura will reprise her role as a miniskirt-wearing doctor

Doctor-X as Doctor Sex, well, sexual suggestive roles and mini-skirts do always attract viewers (mainly male)
