I am a huge fan but I am a little disappointed to read that everything he'll do will be 3D. I still think it's a gimmick, and kind of a hassle to watch with big dark glasses on. Then again, it is Scorcese and I suppose I'll defer to him in determining what the future of cinema is...

"Scorsese and Lee are among a growing group of prominent directors who claim 3D technology is the future of filmmaking."

It isn't. 3D tech will last slightly longer than MDs did in Japan, unless they change the definition of 3D to include the holographic. I predict TV, at least, is headed in this direction, and people duped into buying 3D TV sets will have been simply that -- duped.

I salute the man's movies and his courage to try new things. If he were younger with a more agile mind, and 3-D were left to people like him to work with, I might have some faith in 3-D.

But he isn't young, and 3-D was tossed haphazardly into movies not at all made for them, turning the people off to 3-D. 3-D, like Beta videocassette, may have been great, but its winning hearts that matters and 3-D failed to do that.

3D has, historically, been put in the hands of hacks. That's why 3D was never more than a novelty. Until Avatar - that was the best use of 3D I've ever seen. It was subtle, it didn't overwhelm any other part of the movie, and within minutes of the beginning of the movie, it wasn't even noticeable for the most part. But when the movie was over, it was clear just how immersive the experience was.

If people like Ang Lee and Scorsese are going to be working in 3D, I'm looking forward to it.

It's nice that he is enamored, too bad that most movie goers aren't

3D boom in USA in 1950's, 1980's and now. Every 30 years a new generation gets enamored for a bit then it fades

Very disappointed with Scorsese's comments to make all 3-D movies in the future. 3-D is a gimmick and not worthy of real movie making. What does that mean for the home movie watcher? Do I need to spent a lot of money to get a new TV and home type 3-D glasses for my family just to be able to watch recently released 3-D movies on DVD or on Home Demand channels. What is he thinking? I recently went to see Star Wars in 3-D and was very disappointed. Not only did i have to wear the 3-D glasses but I since I wear prescription glasses, I had to break out my contact lenses which I stopped wearing a few years back to be able to see very few scenes that were actually in 3-D. An old (she is old now) girlfriend of mine is Scorsese's first cousin and I told her to tell her Sicilian cousin to go "Va'a fare in culo" with this 3-D movie idea, so let's see what he says.

Martin Baby, 3D is passe. 4D is the wave of the future.
