Pop singer Seiko Matsuda has married for the third time. The 50-year-old singer announced her marriage to a university associate professor on her official website on Wednesday.
Matsuda, who recently released her 46th album, wrote that she was overjoyed to be starting a new chapter in her life with a man of her own generation. She also promised to continue her singing career.
Matsuda first married actor Masaki Kanda in a nationally televised wedding in 1985, and they had a daughter Sayaka, now 25, who is also a singer. Matsuda and Kanda divorced in 1997. Her second husband was a dentist whom she married in 1998. They divorced in 2000.

I am happy for her! I was always wondering what she was doing with her love life after her last divorce on 2000. (Sorry Im not from Japan, just in case somebody was going to question me about this).

@Maria. I totally agree with you!

Hey, what's wrong with a woman being married at 50? Kato Cha married at what? 70? even to a woman who could be his granddaughter....lol. And you guys didn't make a fuss out of it. I guess you guys must have lived in Japan long enough to be 'hito no shiawase ga kirai...'

Seiko is a great singer and, at 50, is still great looking.

Wow! 27 years have gone by already! The televised frenzy of her 1985 wedding had me trying to escape from it by going to Zennibako Beach from Sapporo for a day of windsurfing. It was a hot day, so I stopped along the way at a Ma and Pa store to get a cold drink. There on the television over the counter was the televised wedding. Another customer in the shop also commented on the national insanity over that wedding. At the time the popularity of Seiko Matsuda was also fascinating the sociologists since she wasn't that good looking or that good a singer. They concluded that because she wasn't that good looking or that good of a singer, Japanese girls could imagine being like her and Japanese boys could imagine being with her.

Doubt this will improve the J fertility rate but wish the couple well . How about some pic, JT ? If there's no pic, it didn't happen.

No shame. Using her marriage to promote her image and her album. If her album doesn't take off she'll divorce this guy. What am I saying? She'll divorce him no matter what. She's just causing someone pain.

What difference does it make?

3rd time lucky..

I hear the professor is a Keio U. dentist. This is the second dentist for Seiko, she must want to keep her pearly whites in good condition!

Congratulations!
As for the timing of the new album(s) and her wedding(s), couldn't that be because she is in love? Doesn't everyone get more creative when they are in love?

she is one confused lady

She married first at the age of 23, then at 36, now at 50. All quite different stages in life. Hardly rushing into anything. And she certainly gave both marriages the old college try. We grow, develop and mature as individuals, and if our partners chosen at a younger age don't change with us, or if they refuse to adapt and adjust, or if they grow in different directions, then quite rightly we should seek happiness and fulfillment elsewhere. Why stay in a miserable marriage, why stay alone, because of fear of how media and the public will react? Good for her - I admire her, and I wish her and her partner all happiness in their marriage.

Cynicism will get you nowhere !

Can't help thinking that the wedding news is to generate publicity about her new album?

Is it my imagination or do divorce and marriage announcements often seem to coincide with the release of new CD's here?

How old is the professor?

They say "The 3rd time's the charm" or "If at first you dont succeed...... or in my case "A glutton for Punishment" anyway I hope it works out.

I thought she had been married more times.

As Dr. Johnson said, Seiko Matsuda definitely exemplifies "the triumph of hope over experience."

She made 46 albums and sold 2....

Don't dislike her but her music was from the generation before the good stuff started appearing. Too wholesome for me.

Good for you ang goid publicity but I can see a trail of broken heats and a sea of tears at this.

Her first marriage lasted for 12 years and she is getting married 3rd time after 12 years and two years in transit with a dentist ! Looking at Japanese women's life expectancy can't rule out 4th and 5th....! what a life :(
