RIP...Prince, the world has lost another artist. Your music will live on for generations!

I was completely floored this morning when I heard the news. One of the more greater talents without a doubt. This year has been a complete slaughter on musicians and will be remembered for a long time to come. Saw Prince a few times in concert, there was NO limit to the guys musical prowess, multitalented, played multiple instruments exceptionally and equally with style and grace. He will be definitely missed and it's very said that the man is no longer with us, but his musical impact on the industry is undisputed. One of my favorite performances from Prince when he played in 2004 at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame George Harrison induction. Prince completely shreds with a spectacular and insane guitar performance.

RIP

Wow, that’s one incredibly gifted guitar player gone.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Aw no, that is sad to hear. He will be missed.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A true talent.

Another great Artist gone RIP.

Too much if the 70's & 80's musicians are dying.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Sad news to wake up to. Curses on that plague.

Probably the greatest super bowl performance, he was a true star musician with incredible talent. Guitar play as under rated as they come. He was incredible on guitar, and likely the greatest all around musician...guitar, multiple instrument, vocalist, songwriter...ever, and he crossed over multiple types of music, with such grace, it seemed too easy.

pretty soon theyll all be gone; really sad

Wow, that’s one incredibly gifted guitar player gone.

Never be another like him too.

Prince completely shreds with a spectacular and insane guitar performance.

Plus, he was an incredible song writer. I'll be digging out those early CD's this weekend for a flashback: Prince's "1999", "Purple Rain" soundtrack and "Around the World in a Day."

3 ( +5 / -2 )

That Purple Rain solo and intro to When Doves Cry are absolute favorites as well. Strawberry Beret one of the most perfect pop songs ever also in my head for the longest time, probably b/c it was coming up to the 30th anniversary of Around the World in a Day. One of the most well rounded musicians and performers ever, without a doubt. Still can't quite accept it....RIP

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Man, his music along woth MJ's as part of the soundtrack of my life growing up in the 80s. All of the artists he put out too or did work with had great music as well.

Years back, I noticed he was doing concerts at the Rio in Vegas for months at a time. I always said that next time I would go and see him because I thought Prince would live forever. RIP

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Got to see him perform in the UK and the man sang....

'Dearly beloved We are gathered here today To get through this thing called life Electric word life It means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here to tell you There's something else The after world A world of never ending happiness You can always see the sun, day or night'

RIP Purple One.....

Hi Lizz! Little correction to ur post k, its "Raspberry" not "strawberry" beret. Btw - that catch Prince tune can be found on the "Around the world in a day" CD.

RIP Prince........

This has truly been a bad year so far for losing major artists. While I hold the loss of Bowie a little closer to home, I grew up listening to Prince a little more, and have many, many fond memories. Even cringing about the Batman soundtrack is a fun memory. RIP. Far too young to go!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This is another terrible loss for this year. He was too young.

Hi Lizz! Little correction to ur post k, its "Raspberry" not "strawberry" beret. Btw - that catch Prince tune can be found on the "Around the world in a day" CD.

lol That must the jet lag talking. It is still a (relatively) straightforward song about a first time with a prostitute in a red hat. The CD is at home, not in Japan unfortunately, or I would be listening now.

RIP. Prince was a genius. He was also a quirky guy who could be perplexing to work with apparently. Here is Kevin Smith, director of Dogma (which Prince liked, and in which God is portrayed as a woman), talking about making a documentary about Prince. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LhcParuzpc. I hope that some of the music in Prince's vaults will now be released.

I remember when I was 8 or 9 in the late 80s and asking my parents what that record was that they were playing. They said Prince. One of the first foreign musicians I really liked. His music still colors the memory of my childhood. Purple.

Sometimes it snows in April

Sometimes I feel so bad

Sometimes, sometimes I wish that life was never ending,

And all good things, they say, never last

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wonder how he died? He is still kinda young.

RIP Prince.

I guess no one cares of Chyna as well. That was yesterday she was only 45. Unfortunately it seems like these death have been happening in pairs. Still RIP Prince.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I just wish I could play one instrument to something like the level he could play pretty much any. A genuine talent.

For anyone who hasn't heard "When you were mine", I really recommend it. It's a gem of a track from the "Dirty Mind" album and it is exactly why I like his music - clever, a bit naughty, and very, very good.

At least Minnesota's greatest musical son is still alive and kicking ass. Long live the King!

RIP Prince.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Mike:

You are referring to Mr Zimmerman?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Of course. When Bob goes, it really will be the day the music dies.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

it is exactly why I like his music - clever, a bit naughty, and very, very good.

Great song Jimizo, but I'd prefer "Darling Nikki." -clever and very, very naughty.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The man's dead. If you weren't a fan, why not just go and comment on some other piece of news? Nothing to be gained from speaking ill of the dead.

RIP Prince.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Wow! The world lost an amazing artist today. He was a beautiful person and performer. We should be glad that we lived in an era at the same time as David Bowie, Merle Haggard, and Prince. The stars will shine just a bit dimmer over the music world tonight... R.I.P.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Rest in Peace, Prince. Musical genius who wrote all his own songs, countless more for other artists, and played multiple instruments amazingly well. Whether it was heroin as some are reporting, or just a terrible 'flu, it not really important - it is a very sad day for music fans.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

RIP Prince. I was so sad to see that Prince passed away. Actually I was shocked. I grew up listening to this man, and anyone who says, as one or two of you have here, that Prince was not one of the most unbelievably talented performers/singer-songwriters in the past 30 years than you are sadly mistaken and uneducated on the subject. This man was one of the greatest and far exceeded most prominent musicians in talent. As for Bowie, I frankly would not call him more or less talented than Prince because music depends on the ears of the listener and that is all. I was a never a fan of Bowie's but I would never disrespect him by making such a comparison, so please try a little respect. And no, Prince was not more famous for his weirdness than his musical at all. That would only be for people who did not listen to his music at all and that is what raises a few flags.

Let's be respectful to this man who has had a profound effect on music in the past 30 years.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

yes, let's show some respect at the passing of an American musical icon. his legacy will endure. a sad day in world music. RIP Prince Nelson...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"She wore a raspberry beret. The kind you find in a second-hand store."

R.I.P. Another musical genius gone from this world.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

May doves cry, and my your sent off be a celebration of you life & they all party like it’s 1999 RIP Prince.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I never cared for the guy (way too eccentric) or his music but 57 seems a bit young. I am curious as to the cause of death.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Your favourite tune? So many to choose from...

Most Beautiful Girl In the World loses out in a close battle with Money Don't Matter 2 Night for me, but Let's Go Crazy is a personal Karaoke favourite.

RIP.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

RIP purple dude. 57 is too young to die.

Sexy MF is his most memorable tune. Da Da da da daaaaa. Den den den.....

Report now: FYI -- PURPLE HAZE: PRINCE WAS TREATED FOR OVERDOSE DAYS BEFORE DEATH

Woe. Interesting Danny. Where's the link?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Favorite tune? This is one that not many have mentioned, but it has one of the best rhythm tracks: Alphabet Street. Batdance was another memorable left field hit of the late '80s.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Such great memories of him from the 80s, and hard to find someone who can combine rock/pop/funk and make it work so perfectly.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

on Front Page of Drudge Report now: FYI -- PURPLE HAZE: PRINCE WAS TREATED FOR OVERDOSE DAYS BEFORE DEATH

And? That doesn't mean it is how he died. Show some respect.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

www.drudgereport.com links to TMZ report. you read it. i will say nothing more other than RIP Prince.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And? We still don't know how he died. Show some respect.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yeah, instead of wasting time reading the bottom feeding tabloid hysterics on Drudge, go read some real Minnesota journalists like Jon Bream (Star Tribune) who actually spent decades observing and interviewing Prince.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Seeing him in concert was on my bucket list. Missed James Brown, but thought I'd at least have a shot at seeing Prince.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Your favourite tune? So many to choose from...

Jack U Off, Cream and Little Red Corvette are up there!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It is impossible to choose a favorite. There was so many outstanding songs.

Listened to Kiss this morning. Like much of his work, Kiss is absolutely a masterpiece of music and vocals.

I read one thought that seems worth repeating, his songs were either a prayer or foreplay.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Cream! Yes indeed, the Diamonds and Pearls album had some of his best stuff.

Pheromone from the perhaps lesser known "Come" album, and Pope are other favourites that suddenly spring to mind.

Damn U... The Dance (favourite track from 3121)... Endorphinmachine and 319 (Gold Experience)... so much good stuff. Such a variety of stuff...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

celebrities are not gods. i am showing respect for music culture, strangerland by passing on the reality of drug abuse in the industry. you should show some respect too, mate.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

He was such an amazing and talented musician, song writer, and stage performer. In my opinion, he was the top entertainer of my generation with no disrespect to any other performers. Prince was just the total package all-in-one. My first concert that I witnessed from Prince was the "1999 Tour" back in 1983 in my hometown, two months before my high school graduation. It was Vanity 6 (unfortunately she just passed away a few months ago), The Time, and Prince all in the same show. Even today of all the concerts I ever attended over the years, that show was the loudest. They really blasted those speakers.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"multiple sources tell us that Prince was rushed to a hospital after his private plane made an unscheduled emergency landing after his atlanta concert six days ago. the doctors in illinois gave him a "save shot" injection ...typically given by docs to counteract the effects of an opiate drug..."...it was never a case of the flu. that was a pr cover. he od'd six days ago. so did he do it one more time yesterdat for final exit? no, thats not suicide. but then, its not the flu either. so mass media tell us the truth. we want to know.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

RIP Prince

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

My favorite... Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover (Official Video) ....Unusual and at the same time exceptional....

celebrities are not gods.

I would say the same if you were hypothesizing about the homeless man on the street.

i am showing respect for music culture, strangerland by passing on the reality of drug abuse in the industry.

No you aren't. You are disrespecting the dead. Show some respect by being patient for a week or two to find out the reality.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

strangerland, you are always a good voice of sanity here at JT so i will take yr advice and start being patient and wait two more weeks before making any more comments. i do mourn prince's passing. i do respect the dead. i will keep quiet now. your points are well taken.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Thank you!

I was in shock and disbelief and even got a little choked up when I read the news this morning. I was sad when Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston died, but Prince's passing hits me particularly hard. Was fortunate enough to see him during the Purple Rain Tour. The man was a musical genius and one hell of a performer. Aw, man, Prince, you will absolutely be missed.(;_;)

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Vanity in February and now Prince. Sometimes it snows until April. RIP to one of the greatest.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Saw him when he was the opening act for Parliament Funk in 1980. He was booed off the stage after just two songs because what he played sailed over the heads of most who were in attendance. His style of music went on to become a time capsule of the 1980s. More than doves are crying today. . . .

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I remember hearing "Purple Rain" for the first time on the radio in '84 and I was thinking, "Now THAT was different." Then, sometime later, I watched the movie on cable and for some reason the song's tie to (in the movie) his father's death hit me like a Mack truck. I can't hear the song anymore without tears starting to form. RIP Prince, in addition to all your other accolades, you were a master storyteller.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's being reported now that he had an opiate overdose 6 days earlier when his plane made that emergency landing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Can madonna go next?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I'd prefer "Darling Nikki." -clever and very, very naughty.

Wow. Guess this thread has gone goody-two-shoe. Most true Prince fans, especially @ the peak of his era, love that darling nikki message. . . .tsk,tsk,tsk-

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Wc626, I lived the melody of darling Nikki but weren't the lyrics about a woman in a bus Station Doing something that one cannot mention online here? Very cool.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Loved

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least no one has brought up his rumored homophobia yet. People are often torn and complex. Like many others, Prince both adored his God and loved the flesh, and rode the contradictions as best he could.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but weren't the lyrics about a woman in a bus Station Doing something that one cannot mention online here

Yes. Very naughty lyrics, I don't think it was a bus station, it was in a 'hotel lobby."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's being reported now that he had an opiate overdose 6 days earlier when his plane made that emergency landing.

He was in pain for some time -used a cane to walk. And it seemed he came down with some sort of sickness (flu etc). If you jumped off stages in high-heels you might have some pain also. Where was his Dr. at a time of need.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He had a Dr..... doctor pill and patch, for over twenty five years. Did him in, in the end. Another manufactured superstar falls to Earth. Who's next?
