'Single' Akina Minami wins Wedding Best Dresser Award

Akina Minami, 21, was named one of three winners of the inaugural Wedding Best Dresser Awards this week, despite being single and unattached. Minami won in the category of TV personality. In the model category, the award was scooped up by Marie, 23, while 19-year-old Tomomi Itano from AKB48 took the gong in the idol category -- both of whom are also single.

At the awards ceremony, Minami appeared in a wedding dress and told attendees, "All girls long for a white wedding, so I'm pleased to have been chosen for this award." When asked about her own wedding prospects, Minami replied, "I'd like to get married at around 24 or 25, but I don't have a boyfriend right now and my friends tell me it's not going to happen anytime soon. But when the day comes, my ideal ceremony would be at Disneyland with all my friends."

In response to the news that comedian Toshifumi Fujimoto, 39, of comedy group Fujiwara, and 23-year-old TV personality Yukina Kinoshita recently tied the knot in a hotel affiliated with the Tokyo Disneyland resort, Minami responded, "I've been beaten to it, so it's going to look like I'm copying them. I think I'll scratch that idea."

Yeah right. Why else would a plain skinny unattractive girl with no personality get all the TV, CM and silly award coverage that she gets at the moment ?

What a delightful description. And so true too!

Sweet lord, ANOTHER 'best' award??

Shows how truly ridiculous all these awards have become. Three single people, all age 23 or younger, win the "Best Wedding Dresser" award. Huh?

despite being single and unattached.

Bwahahahaha! What a slap in the face to the women who actually got married in the past 12 months! Oh Japan!

I'm not sure you can qualify for a "Wedding Best Dresser Award" unless you're being evaluated on what you ACTUALLY WORE to a wedding.

Fadamor, Riiight?!

People get married at the Disney resorts all the time. It's not just a Japanese "thing". You want to get married somewhere that's special to you. For some people, that's an amusement park. The trick is finding a partner who shares your love of amusement parks.

I'm scratching my head about these "awards", though. Granted, it's the inaugural presentation so they may need to refine the eligibility rules somewhat. I'm not sure you can qualify for a "Wedding Best Dresser Award" unless you're being evaluated on what you ACTUALLY WORE to a wedding.

Akina Minami deserves the award 1 billion percent. She is Beautiful, cute and one of the best of the best in Japan when it comes to entertainers.

Ah,ha,ha,ha ! I love that ironic black humour.

I'd say it's because you look like a man.

I went to a Japanese-style wedding last week, and it was absolutely great. hard for me to understand why it's not popular anymore

Did you go to the actual wedding, or just the reception? A traditional Japanese-style wedding is usually attended only by immediate family.

My in-laws also tried to persuade me to have a traditional Japanese do; in the end we compromised, they had their Japanese san-san-kudo in front of the kamisama, I wore white and had my friends attending the ceremony.

There are a number of reasons the traditional Japanese wedding is losing favour; the layers and layers of kimono, as miamum has mentioned, plus the wig is heavy and uncomfortable, the stark white make-up makes the bride unrecognisable in her own wedding photos, and the whole get-up is ridiculously expensive to rent.

My daughter never even considered wearing a kimono for her wedding.

I don't know what surprised me most, that there even IS a "best wedding dresser" award, or that there are various "categories" for it!!!

Not dressist? Must be a spelling mistake

Uno Kanda is missing from this award, she's worn at least 6 wedding dresses to her weddings around the region...

How do you win a Wedding Best Dresser Award when you've never worn a wedding dress. What, does she walk around in wedding dresses occasionally?

Don't know about you, but my wedding was officiated by a practicing preacher. But yeah, some places save money by hiring a fake. Out of a $20K typical wedding, that's where you save money rite?

She has great legs, so should be wearing a mini-wedding dress in my opinion.

I wish they would stop advertising the "white wedding", in a hotel chapel with a fake priest and everything perfectly organized and horribly fake. I went to a Japanese-style wedding last week, and it was absolutely great. hard for me to understand why it's not popular anymore

A wedding ceremony at Disney Land... how very Japanese of her.

Do they know something you don't?

This wins the prize for the silliest "bestist".
