The tour will kick off Sept 4 at Tokyo Dome and finish next Jan 12 at Nagoya Dome. In all, there will be 22 concerts which are expected to attract 1 million fans, organizers said Monday.

The opening concert will coincide with the release of the group's 21st album, "Mr.S." The tour's title is "Mr.S-SAITEI DE SAIKOU NO OTOKO." See tour schedule here.

Being tone deaf and becoming famous in Japan is a given for some reason.

Having dumbo ears and being called a beautiful model inJapan is a given for some reason.

Dirty teeth or missing teeth in Japan is praised for some reason.

God help Japan.

A little long in the tooth. They are still"cute," though.

SMAP has no talent whatsoever.

@borscht

I've never seen the Beatles or the Rolling Stones described as an "all-male" group. Why the necessity of such on a Japan-centered news site for SMAP?

Good point, but you can hardly call them a 'band' because none of them play instruments. (at least professionally enough that is). In the West, such a group would be called a 'boy band' I believe. Imagine Back Street Boys, but annoyingly on your tv 27 hours a day, 7 days a week. I totally agree there is no need to announce the show on a 'news' site :p

Ended up on the same shinkansen one day with these guys out of Tokyo. An experience to say the least ! Back in the mid nineties, they were real heartthrobs ! Especially "Kinu-Taku" ! I remember thinking was this what it was like with the Beatles?

Not "doomed" tour of Japan?

"SMAP? Like a cat in heat." Excellent comment!

Wow, you trolls are hilarious. Say what you will about SMAP, but they are entertaining and are good men trying to entertain the best they can be. Several of them are quite experienced and pretty good at acting on TV, especially Kimutaku.

So, I'd suggest people who take the time to troll on Japanese news sites to complain about stuff they don't watch anyway to do what Cleo said above...

1). Find the Off button on the remote.

2). Press it.

3). Get a life away from the box.

In an emergency, skip 1). and 2). and execute 3). immediately.

Enjoy your life entertaining the masses with your righteousness and talent for making people happy!

Oh, that's sarcasm in case you missed it!

My husband and I caught a glimpse of that. I had no idea how bad they were. My husband sat there muttering while I sat there laughing. The old guy (the leader/) kept stopping and looked like he was going to pass out. For god's sake, autotune please! Horrific. Reminds me of AKB and all the other girl bands that switch up singers that have zero talent. I can't for the life of me understand Exile but at least they have a few guys that can carry a tune. SMAP? Like a cat in heat.

Not sure if you actually follow Japan but everyone in this country already knows that Nakai (the guy who was passing out) cannot sing. It's a national joke and he gets teased for it at literally every show he goes on. He is quite gracious about it and does a really good job of turning it around and using it as a comedy tool for the group's benefit.

SMAP and boy-bands in general are not my thing but I do think they are highly entertaining.

borscht, they're pretty much a boy band, but I'm guessing the writer felt "boy" was a bit of a stretch for these old guys.

The nation just endured 27 hours of those clown on TV over the weekend. What does it take to get away from them?

Think the 27 hour program the other day went to theirs and their management's heads that they were still relevant musically. As well, didn't they see how buggered they looked doing that 45 minute set?

22shows in 3months isn't a tour its a cakewalk, always kills me how lazy j-artists are!

They should be able to easily do 3 dome shows a week or around 36shows easy(not that I would want to see any haha!)

THEN you could call it a tour, what they are planning is a stroll in the park!

Old beat and tired soon they Will go on a senior tour!

They really looked old and tired. It could have been the heat or they could just be old and tired. Well, management got to get paid, so they got to put them boys on the road.
