SMAP will appear with American actor Tommy Lee Jones in the 2013 fall Suntory BOSS coffee campaign.
All members of the group attended a news conference on Sunday to promote the commercials for BOSS Grand Aroma Coffee and two other original coffee brands.
The guys said they were impressed with the 66-year-old Jones, who has made more than 30 commercials and appeared in countless ads and posters for BOSS since 2006. His character — “Alien Jones" - is an extraterrestrial who takes the form of a human being to learn more about life on Earth (in particular, Japan).

How much you wanna bet Jones has never heard of SMAP?
TakahiroDomingo
smap went from boy-band-wannabes to the most excessively photo-shopped faces in commercials you see everywhere, from trains to toilets. any other coffee but bosss.

Um, they were/are a boy-band, and arguably the most successful ever in Japan. Every other boy band wants to be them.

Looking forward to a new Boss commercial with Tommy Lee!

if SMAP never appeared on TV ever again Japan would be a better place

I love shingo :)

SMAP advertising a product? Who'd - a thought it!?
CrazyJoe
These guys will do just about anything if you put a yen sign in front of them.

Jealous much?
Oh and shame on SMAP for steeping to the low, low depths of appearing in a commercial with a big name movie star. Oh the horrors. I don't know how they sleep at night (but probably with naked women on a top of a big pile of money).
TakahiroDomingo
i've heard they are very popular with ladies over 50 (majority).
i would think that every other boy band wants to be successful, period. this is not the same as wanting to sing off-key live like smapss

Wow, that's like an insult to Tommy Lee Jones.
wtfjapan
SMAP: Japans most over rated, musically talentless band. just goes to prove dont need to be able to sing or dance to be popular
rickyvee
smap isn't a band, per se (because usually you would need to be able to singing ability or play an instrument to be considered one). they are just a bunch of 'talents' who were joined together by a production company. why they can still sell records says a lot about japan.

AKB 48 are better and I bet Tommy Lee would rather have appeared in an ad with them than SMAP.

I love Kimutaku & all the boys whether SMAP sings off-key or not. They're like a comfortable warm jacket you put on when it gets cold. it's a bit flayed at the edges and slightly discolored, but fits well and looks cool. They do perfect in a coffee commercial with Alien Jones whether the latter have heard of SMAP or not. I'm having that coffee after I see the commercial.

I love SMAP and I will still buy their album even if it is off key or not. If you are not interested in SMAP, why bother reading this piece of news?

I'm impressed SMAP are still around. Man they suck! I feel very bad for Tommy Lee. He's too good for these clowns.

As long as they don't sing, I'm all for it. Enjoy guys.

what does Tommy Lee Jones think of smap. they are only part of a marketing bandwagon.
why read this news- we feel sorry for Tommy Lee.
the ad would be better off without them in it. makes me sick just thinking about it.
wtfjapan
the short member (sorry forgot his name) while a good TV show host, sings like somebody choking a chicken, youd think after all these years/money hed at least take some singing classes to make his singing voice bearable

Isn't what they say about AKB48?
I actually find SMAP quite bland musically, but Shingo is okay in comedies, and that long-haired one was okay in Mr Brain and the Uchuu Senkan Yamato film. The one in Galileo is probably the better actor of them all... but compared to Agent Smith, I mean Tommy Lee Jones they are as plankton around Flipper... I think ¬.¬
