SMAP will sing the theme song for the NHK morning drama "Ume-chan sensei," which will air Monday-Saturday at 8 a.m. from April 2. It will be the first time that the popular group has provided the theme song for a TV drama.
The drama stars Maki Horikita, 23, as the title character, Dr Ume, who becomes a doctor in Kamata, Tokyo, after World War II. Horikita, popularly known as "Homaki," said the theme is one of restoration, and added that it is also relevant to Japan today as it recovers from the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
SMAP's song "Sakasama no sora" (Upside-down sky) was written to match the theme, the group said. SMAP member Takuya Kimura, 39, said in a statement: "I hope the song gives viewers a warm feeling when they hear it each morning."© Japan Today
