SMAP to sing theme song for NHK morning drama for first time

SMAP will sing the theme song for the NHK morning drama "Ume-chan sensei," which will air Monday-Saturday at 8 a.m. from April 2. It will be the first time that the popular group has provided the theme song for a TV drama.

The drama stars Maki Horikita, 23, as the title character, Dr Ume, who becomes a doctor in Kamata, Tokyo, after World War II. Horikita, popularly known as "Homaki," said the theme is one of restoration, and added that it is also relevant to Japan today as it recovers from the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

SMAP's song "Sakasama no sora" (Upside-down sky) was written to match the theme, the group said. SMAP member Takuya Kimura, 39, said in a statement: "I hope the song gives viewers a warm feeling when they hear it each morning."

Jeez, folks, at least give the song a listen before passing almighty judgement already. Anyway, show looks interesting. I used to work in Kamata, and wouldn't mind learning a bit more about it.

Ranger_Miffy2 be our guest to give the song a listen, but I suggest using earplugs. What has been heard cannot been unheard

I think the image of SMAP has been largely tarnished by the over-saturation of badly written forced dramas starring that villain eyed hack Takuya Kimura. If you overlook him..which I know is not easy..you will realise SMAP is not half as terrible.

I alwys wondered why they weere named SMAP instead of SPAM. They are both fake, hard to swallow, etc....

I don't think "johnny" found them hard to swallow.

I hear many boys have to 'suffer a bit' if they're to make it big with Johnny's. In the meantime, we're made to suffer with tarentos like SMAP - it's like the worst of Amateur Night.

That's the beginning of the end for Smap. Probably in 4-5 years the members will concentrate mostly on their individual carreers, and forget about working as a group.
