The so-called "War on Terror" is one that will never end.

There is no enemy.

"Terror" isn't an enemy. It is a way of fighting.

The real terrorists are the CIA and the puppet media who spread the terror.

The cause and operations of war these days are hidden. Wars are not fought on the battlefield, but in dark little offices by secret organizations. The only "winners" are those who make a profit from it, arms manufacturers and so on.

In 2013, President Barack Obama announced that the United States was no longer pursuing a War on Terror

United States was no longer pursuing a War on Terror

Yeah only because iraq was still fresh in our memories. Now the tactic de jour is arming proxies and perpetuating war crimes all the while pretending to criticize the very same thugs. The war didn't end, it evolved.

The war didn't end, it evolved.

You confuse Bush's War on Terror with US foreign policy.

The U.S. backing off will not lessen hacking and eavesdropping on the planet. It's inexpensive compared to using the big stuff. Remember Yahoogate.

Cold War warrior, George Kennan wrote a classified memo in 1948 that still serves as an accurate assessment of the US government's realpolitik:

We must be very careful when we speak of exercising "leadership" in Asia. We are deceiving ourselves and others when we pretend to have answers to the problems, which agitate many of these Asiatic peoples. Furthermore, we have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3 of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships, which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and daydreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world benefaction... In the face of this situation we would be better off to dispense now with a number of the concepts which have underlined our thinking with regard to the Far East. We should dispense with the aspiration to 'be liked' or to be regarded as the repository of a high-minded international altruism. We should stop putting ourselves in the position of being our brothers' keeper and refrain from offering moral and ideological advice. We should cease to talk about vague — and for the Far East — unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are hampered by idealistic slogans, the better.

In order to maintain this fundamental strategic position, naturally policies have had to be modified to include cyber warfare (even waged against citizens of the USA who are deemed to be a threat to the interests and hegemony of the plutocratic ruling classes).

Whether the new figurehead will be Klinton or Drumpf, the US machiavellian "deep state" will continue to function unhampered by the "will of the people".

Amerika, Amerika ueber Alles!

Bertie pretty much nailed it

"The real terrorists are the CIA..."

And the KGB? Or the Chinese MSS? Are they so innocent?

Like Carl Schmitt said people/peoples need a enemy image as a basis for there own cultures. This has been exploited by governments for a long time. Now with terrorism there is a boogy man everywhere this helps keep the populous in fear and under control. People who are interested should read the neolib "project for a new american century."

'Snowden' director Stone warns of U.S. bid to 'control the world'

No [censored] Sherlock! People have been warning about this since the '50s. The thing is, no-one listens. No-one has any real reason to. Claims are made, but it doesn't take long for the evidence (if there ever is any to begin with) to become flimsy and hard to believe. To be honest, I think by the time any irrefutable evidence comes to light, it'll already be too late. IF there's any credibility to the claim to begin with. I'm on the fence one way or the other. It could be true, it could be nonsense. Neither side has swayed me yet.

Precisely. Just like Oliver Stome to come to grips with the obvious 50 years on...

It's not the US that the world needs to be wary of, but the group who stripped Puerto Rico of its bankruptcy protection.

http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2016/apr/27/john-oliver/mystery-strom-thurmond-puerto-rico-and-bankruptcy-/

This is the insidious group that wants the world at its fingertips...

I think the U.S. already controls the world.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Well, if the US is trying to control it...

I'd say the Chinese are trying to own it...

The Russians are trying to hack into it...

The North Koreans are trying to blow it up...

The Brits are trying to exit it...

and Japan is trying to ignore it.

Even if the US stops everything they're doing, do people think the rest of the world aren't doing anything?

If it isn't the US, there's always somebody else spying on ya.
