Rev. Al Sharpton said in a statement that the apologies were not enough, comparing Pascal to disgraced NBA owner Donald Sterling and demanding that she meet with black leaders immediately.

So I can stay in the news.

Maybe the emails were private, but they're not now. Whatever the consequences these two are in the hot seat. Just proof that you should never put something in an email you wouldn't speak of in mixed company.

You say stuff like that and the company you work for gets hacked left, right, and center...

Karma is a B*tch.

Like mom always used to say, if you haven't got anything nice to say about someone, keep your mouth shut!

Moron, why isn't he fired for not hiring the right people that would have stopped this hack, "security" in most companies is install patches and anti virus, that doesn't cut it for enterprise, hire the right people and give them the budget they need.

Sony can't seem to do anything right at the moment.

Farmboy: "The remarks noted in the article were inappropriate, but it was PRIVATE e-mail."

True, but it's not private any more. And anyway, if it's email that you are ashamed of after it becomes public then perhaps it's not email you should be writing at all, private or not. I don't think this is a HUGE deal, but still.

Highly regarded people using their power to utter racists comment which they claim they are just simple jokes! Whether it is private or not, that at least shows a simple representation of how they feel.

Interesting that the posters are now turning the attention to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who by the way makes an outstanding comparison, and away from Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal. The Rev. isn't the scumbag in this story!

Don't blame the messenger because the message is unpleasant.

Racially offensive jokes?

They are not sorry one damn bit. No racist ever is. They're just sorry they got caught.

Not surprised at all. This kind of thing is widespread. If I were Obama, I'd tell them to go eff themselves as I have ascended higher than either of them and to stick their "apology" where the sun don't shine.. Racists spend all day apologizing for something they aren't sorry about.

Well, they are similar. It seems that stuff you say in private and gets leaked by some dirtbag, gets you in trouble now.

Sharpton is a disgrace. I hate the man.

Obama's a lot smarter than the Hollywood execs, even his pastor's sermons are Not Available.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Mel Gibson, Jeremiah Wright .... and now who? Elizabeth Lauten? Scott Rudin? Amy Pascal? William Ashbless?

It's pathetic when people state their opinion and then they don't have the balls to stick to their guns when people call them out on it. If he thinks Jolie is a minimally talented brat then thats what he thinks and others can either accept it or take a long walk off a short pier is my opinion. We live in a world nowadays with a bunch of politically correct cry babies. Can't say or do anything without offending someone.

Why does he have to apologize? That was a private conversation, is he not allowed to say what he thinks? What is this.... les Majeste? What a sycophant.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

When words we say in private conversations can be used to topple careers, fortunes and reputations, or even condemn some to prison time, there is no freedom of speech.

@WilliBDEC. 12, 2014 - 04:13PM JST Why does he have to apologize? .

To discourage lawsuits. Very expensive in USA.

“You can’t hold people responsible on how they conduct (emailing) in private or between colleagues, unless they’re doing something illegal,” comedian Ricky Gervais told the AP.

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky! These people weren't emailing in private! They were using Sony's email system! I would assume that Sony has an acceptable use policy for their email system (every other company does, after all) and I would be extremely surprised if what these two wannabe comedians were using Sony's email system for was "acceptable" per the agreement. And Sony most certainly CAN hold people responsible for what they email between colleagues. Sony is now having to conduct damage control over this for the sole reason that these two people used Sony's email system to send this tripe back and forth.

This year has been a very fruitful year for Sharpton. Bringing in the big bucks, hope he pays his taxes this time around.

0 ( +5 / -4 )

wonder if it will affect his career?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So this will mean that everybody should not write any kind of remotely offensive content mails and SMS... hope everyone is OK, since any time any pc any mail can be hacked and made public.

at issue for HR is the use of Banter: since that is what leads to issues such as this one in the workforce, i have to say however - before you throw that stone- the next time you are in work take some time to listen to how people talk during the" gossip" time.

if you are also bantering , making comments you think everyone feels is funny but is on edge due to race, religion sex, sexual preference- well it is probably covered in your hR manual and usually by a law or two.

Both parties in this will see disciplinary action, they both may resign, though it should not be because sharpton said so but because of the misstep with company policy

I'll bet the hackers don't release any of the emails asking where they can find a fat, dull, stupid Asian to play Kim Jong Un in their movie....

They shouldn't be sorry, because they're not actually offensive. You have to have some really thin skin to take offense to what was described in the article. But Al Sharpton needs his shekels, so rev up the outrage machine people! It's not like your dancing to the hands of the media, your thoughts are your own!

South koreans eating away sony electronic's vast market share of the 80's and 90's.

North koreans (according to CNN) hacking one of few profitable sony business units to release scathing private emails

Irony? .

Rev. Al Sharpton said in a statement that the apologies were not enough, comparing Pascal to disgraced NBA owner Donald Sterling and demanding that she meet with black leaders immediately.

They are starting to turn on each other. These people who sent the emails about Obama are the very same people who were doing fundraisers and raising big money for him and the Dems. Just goes to show you that all of these so called "wars" on women, Blacks, Christmas, etc are just a bunch of hype to get people to donate.

Are there issues among the races in the USA, yes there are and having Sharpton going there is not going to solve anything. He has been going to all the so called flashpoints for years, and as a result nothing has really happened but gotten worse. So what he expects to do, I don't know what that will be but one piece of advise to Al, whatever they give you, pay your taxes and stop marching around about the supposed 1% not paying their fair share.
