Well, it is nice to see some people have a ton of money to spend on this. Never mind the starving children all over the world.

Was it being sold by a private collector?

How much does Mike Zeck (72, still alive), the original artist get ?

Was he a ‘Marvel’ artist at the time, ‘on payroll’ and was it ‘company property’ ?

Some comic book artists never owned the rights to their works. This change in 1992 with artists breaking out to form Image Comics and many other new independents. -

Many of the other, older great artists passed away, . . .

. . . penniless.

And the SICK. We have a pandemic to beat, ya know.

I actually almost bought this issue but I had stopped collecting Spider Man comics just a year before in '83. I saw this at the store and contemplated buying it since it was a novel new Spiderman. Perhaps a $3 million dollar mistake?

@Speed: The comic itself is worth a couple hundred USD, so don't kick yourself too hard. This auction was for the original artwork.

I got to search some comics in the trunk that has been in my grandparents house for decades. I might be lucky. I will sell and get millions and help poor in developing countries.

This is so stupid. I see kids able to draw better than this. And it's free for me to look at.

That is just a subjective opinion like all art is. It depends on the person and how they see or feel about the artist, inker, or colorer. For me, I have always been a fan of John Romita and Jr. as well as John Byrne or even Jack "King" Kirby back in the day, just love those classics over many of the newer artists of today personally.

I've got an original Transformers #1 comic from Marvel UK in good condition, been told I would be lucky to get $50 for it yet the US version goes for 10x the amount even though there are more copies of it available on the market.

Also got the entire 52-issue run of Spider-man & Zoids which is a Marvel UK release, all in Near Mint condition which could bag me a couple of grand if sold at the right time.

Hollywood needs to look at these old comics if they really have to keep putting out those Marvel movies, because they have strayed light-years from Stan Lee's visions and are complete garbage.

Good luck with that. Hate to burst your bubble but I sold off a bundle of STAR WARS trading cards (orignal movie - over 40 years old) and I wasn't able to get much dough from it.

Yeah, @Speed. For a comic itself to be worth a whole lot is has to be in mint condition (like, never read, opened, etc.), and then some. I still have all the comics from when I was a kid, including a bunch of series from #1 on until the mid-nineties, and it's almost shocking how little most are worth. Even had a #1 Fantastic Four at one point that I had rescued from a basement, but it was worth dirt given its condition (only started protecting them from my teens).

So, don't kid yourself, as fallaffel said.

Saw the latest Spider-Man:No Way Home (2021) today and was pleasantly surprised how well they drew together the previous incarnations and ‘casts’ of characters. -SPOILERS! follow: (New appreciation for Tobey Maguire AND Andrew Garfield and will go back to look at Garfield’s film’s previously fast-forwarded through.) On topic to the above story: Venom makes a disappointing and unnecessary cameo appearance.
