Space pictures, huh? That's the latest thing. Let's get a few more space pictures into production and cash in before this craze blows over!

Fantastic! Also utterly repudiates the last 15 years of Lucas. Fantastic on many levels!

It's fun to watch. I rarely go out to the cinema, but this film was well worth the trouble.

It was a great film. Might just be enough to erase the sting of the prequels from memory. Made going back to the movies fun again.

Tell me in 10 years. It's more like fad with short life.

I only like Star Trek.

Of course it did well well. Disney marketed it really aggressively. You can make ANYTHING sell well with aggressive marketing. Looking at you, Apple.

Yeeeaahhh... ummm... hate to break this to you, but if you think Star Wars is the 'latest thing' you've been asleep for most of the last 40 years. One of the reasons for this recent installment's massive success is because of the original three movies (the prequels do not exist), and I guarantee half or more of the viewers, probably most, are fans of the originals. Hence, it's pretty hard to suggest it's popular simply because it's Sci-Fi. That would be worse than if George R. Romero came out with a new zombie movie and you said he was doing it to cash in on the zombie craze (worse because Romero might in PART be making a new movie because of the obsession with zombies, but only in part). The other highest grossing movies at the moment have nothing to do with space, and only a few Sci-Fi shows (and even most of those are more about alien invasions/occupation) are doing well.

I finally saw it and I clapped when the opening credit sequence started, as well as when a lot of the old characters appeared (as main characters again, or in cameos, as with Ackbar). A couple of people around me looked my way when I did, but tough; it was an event, not just a movie, and it took me back to my own little far away galaxy a long, long time ago.

Yeah, the first one was in 1902... I'm sure the craze will blow over soon.

The "fad" has been going on for 38 years now. It's already approaching the average lifespan of citizens in Ancient Rome.

I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. I was quite disappointed. So many terrible things to say about this movie. One of the few positive things is that it was better than the prequels, slightly.

Please elaborate MeanRingo. Curious to hear your thoughts on the 'terrible' parts. I too am not riding the hype wave. It was a decent film but nothing great. I watched a new hope the following day with my boy and both agree it's not even close.

I see this film as the prologue - setting the stage for VIII and IX.

I will see the next star trek film instead.
