Male actors attract more attention, respect and praise. Its a shame sometimes, but its just the way it is. Lots of actresses deserve more attention for their fine acting. But even when you put them in kick butt action roles, they still don't often get as much attention as the men. Its the way society is and its not going to change. In fact, it also has a lot to do with the way women are and want to be, not just how we perceive them.
So its not really sexism. Its human nature first and foremost. If there is any sexism, it might account for there not being one female in the line-up. But if there were just one, would it really change anything?

@EZTokyo...
Did you even read the article? This is not about actors, it's about directors.

Personally I feel that a director's work should be judged on its own merits, irrespective of the Director's sex. This 'row' only exists because a group of individuals want to utilize positive discrimination to obtain undeserved publicity.

'“I would only want my film to be selected for the right reasons—not out of charity because I’m female or anything,” said Arnold, whose first two feature films—“Red Road” and “Fish Tank”—both won the Cannes jury prize.'
Thank you for the very rational approach. I'm sure the people at The Beard will fume, but hey.

Can't wait till this comes out. When I first saw the cast and the previews, I groaned and thought 'oh no this is going to be awful' but when I noticed that the director was Salles, the same guy who directed The Motorcyle Diaries, I thought this could be good. Have to wait and see.

It should be like that for job but sadly, that isn't the world we live in.

The feminists shouldn't be in an uproar because only male directors are in for the awards. They should be in an uproar over the fact that all the female directors are producing crappy films.
