Why is it anti-Semitic to say Gaza is like a concentration camp and Palestine should be free?

There is no mention of hatred towards Jewish people in either comment.

Not only that, but Spyglass are saying “including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing” is antisemitic. So, using the words “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” can only be used in regards to the Holocaust itself, because to compare any other atrocity would be antisemitic? Better not tell the UN that, as they used those words in relation to Rwanda and Srebrenica.

Nothing really lost here, easily replaced by the next one.

So, now it is anti-Semitic to condemn Israel? How is that? Palestinians are also Semitic people!

Why is it anti-Semitic to say, etc.

You appear to have not downloaded the newest upgrade. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) provides a non-legally binding working definition of “antisemitism” which is assumed by many ( https://www.holocaustremembrance.com/resources/working-definitions-charters/working-definition-antisemitism ). Among the many examples included with this definition are the following:

Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.

Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.

Now compare what Melissa Barrera said:

Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water. People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.

Obviously “antisemitism” per this definition right?

Now it is interesting to note that accompanying the definition is the statement “[C]riticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic.” But it seems that effectively only countries outside Israel may be criticized for genocide and ethnic cleansing. It is this which accounts for Spyglass’ statement which aaronagstring noted leads to the Holocaust being the only valid instance of genocide or ethnic cleansing.

As for Sarandon’s statement, the article itself explains, “‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ — a slogan seen as antisemitic because it suggests the eradication of Israel.”

The Oxford English Dictionary (2nd edition) gives one of the definitions of ‘Semitism’ found “In recent use” as “Jewish ideas or Jewish influence in politics and society.” The same dictionary defines ‘Anti-Semitism’ as “Theory, action, or practice directed against the Jews.” It should be clear that the resistance is not really about Jews as such, but about questioning the ideas and influence of Jews in the government and in society. Thus if you disagree with the definition of antisemitism as defined by Jewish organizations, then you are by the very act being antisemitic. Hope everything is clear now.

Why is it anti-Semitic to say Gaza is like a concentration camp and Palestine should be free?

The reason why these two claims are antisemitic is because they are false.

Gaza has been like a prison camp for decades, the Israeli army controls who goes in and out. This NOT an anti-Jewish remark but just the truth.

*Gaza has been like a prison camp for decades, the Israeli army controls who goes in and out. This NOT an anti-Jewish remark but just the truth.*

Because it's a border. A border with a group of people who have publicly stated that they don't accept the existence of Israel and ultimately wants its destruction.

So many antisemites are using the projectionism rhetoric on Israel and Judaism itself. They accuse the state of Israel of the exact same thing and that is antisemitism.

Take Roger Waters, ex-Pink Floyd. He is constantly ranting about Israel being an 'apartheid' and 'fascist' state. That is certainly not true, not even close. He even claims that Israel and Jews control the US media and even control the dictator Donald Trump! He even implies that Israeli security proudly taught US cops like Derrick Chauvinist Pig how to arrest Black Americans with that infamous the 'George Floyd' manner.

And then there's Ye.

“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” — a slogan seen as antisemitic because it suggests the eradication of Israel.

Israel is Israel. Palestine is the West Bank (and Gaza). Palestine does not include what is Israel. They are two different peoples, nations, entities.

Jews were put in concentration camps and exterminated - 6 million of them in the Holo8caust by the Nazis. Antisemites project that idea, claiming that Israeli is doing the same thing on Palestinians. But they ignore and/or deny the Holocaust altogether and push this projectionist lie on the Israelis and Judaism itself.

And it's antisemtism. Bullies and thugs and haters (like trump) use the exact same projectionism method on others.

There's NO excusing what Hamas is doing. But Israel is protecting itself, not committing a genocide.
