No, everyone’s lives are just fine. We all have things in our lives and are too busy to care. Those that do, do. We are all different.

Followed by 3 posts, someone sure is too busy to care.

Responsible, Sensible; Balanced, words to describe Taylor. Words that haters wouldn’t understand.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Many of Swift's songs are catchy tunes. That's all I expect or want from her. The rest of her stuff, I can ignore like almost everyone else.

The same applies to Elton John and Van Halen and other entertainers. The more vocal an entertainer is outside the entertainment arena, the less I want to support their art.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

....and you have a gay relative, you like listening to Queen, blah blah blah.

Pukey2, no gay relatives (that I know of) and duh, who doesn't like listening to Queen?

Basically I dislike anyone who is super pushy about anything. It could be someone pushing their sexuality on me, or their holier-than-thou diet, or their religion, or their politics. But I gotta hate gays, eh? Okaaaay...

That does make him, you or Swift part of Hollywood.

Don't know about your brother, but for me or Taylor, it does make you a part of Hollywood, especially once you are SAG or AFTRA.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

like me she’s a signed SAG and AFTRA member, she is definitely a part of it.

Suuuuure.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Taylor Swift is not part of Hollywood, wrong city.

No, right city, she’s part of the entertainment industry, like me she’s a signed SAG and AFTRA member, she is definitely a part of it.

You didn't speak against homophobia so you support it then?

I don’t know where that came out, left field. Has nothing to do with Swift herself.

Sound like you are envious or jealous of her talents, success and wealth

No, absolutely not. I’m envious of Rush.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Taylor Swift, like many other musicians/entertainers/singers, like Elton John have millions of fans who want to known where she stands on these important issues.

I totally understand that, but generally speaking, the majority of the world could care less about their opinions. We don’t need Hollywood to guide us with their so called moral authority to tell us what they think or how we should be.

Like others too she has to deal with her own haters.

Goes with the territory.

.

I’ve learned to respect Taylor, she makes clean decent music , just like her.

To each his own.

Haters will hate, that’s all they have going in their pathetic lives.

I think millions and millions of her fans and other people do care about her opinions,

And there are millions of people like me that don’t

I think most people don't care one way or the other, but a lot of people are getting tired of hearing this.

I agree 100%!

TheFu:

Consenting adult varies...age of consent is different in different countries. If a country has theirs set at 25 and you're with a 24 year old, you'd be prosecuted as a pedo. Laws are made and amended constantly.

Sorry, just seen your sarcasm remark. ;)=

Commanteer:

I wouldn't say brave. The mainstream is to be more accepting of hmosxuality. Brave would be standing up for pedosxuality, which is not just unpopular but career endangering - they're born that way too, right?

Amazing how the “woke community” have so much influence. It’s almost like that’s how most people think these days....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Swift was once publicly agnostic about political matters, stating she just wanted to be an entertainer and not plant her flag somewhere on the issues of the day.

Then the Woke community told her in no uncertain terms that her career would be targeted if she didn't profess alignment with their side.

Her recent political posturing is just her simply trying to avoid a book burning.

Sensei

Not liking someone doesn't mean you're afraid of them.

Me

sensei, are you saying you don't like gay people?

O-Wing

jcapan's extremely rude question/accusation/conclusion of "Are you saying you don't like gay people?"

LOL

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@bass4funk, et.al

Taylor Swift is so brave. I hope her courage doesn't hurt her career.

That was sarcasm... just for future reference. I know it doesn't play well here.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The Original Wing - no issue with the rest of it. Sometimes these topics raise heckles unnecessarily. Everybody should be as open-minded as possible when trying to debate these things otherwise people can get offended when none is intended.

Of course they are.

Comedy is your strongest attribute.

Is it homophobic to say gay men make the best hair stylist? I remember way back in the early 80's a gay stylist told me they are the best stylists because they want all men to look great after a haircut. And that women stylist subconsciously want men not to look good. I had to start cutting my own hair after '85 since I could not find a male stylist -- sadly AIDS took its toll on gay men -- I wish President Trump would push for more funding into research. Instead we have sleepy/creepy Joe saying if he becomes president he will make sure there is a cure for cancer or something to that effect...

Haa Nemui, regarding my reaction to the initial question of "are you saying you don't like gay people?" - yes, you're quite right. I was making an assumption of tone. That's often dangerous and inaccurate, and perhaps I was being hasty myself. However, all of jcapan's other posts in this thread confirm that my assumption was correct. So, there's really no issue here, is there?

Your opinions are not more valid than those of the other posters you are talking to/about.

Of course they are.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Also, Japan has never been Christianized, so the position of gays/homosexuality in Japan is different. I've been out since junior high in the mid-90s, and I could be a class leader. I never had any problems. But I know some gay kids are bullied.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

From totally gay gokai: The meaning of "gay liberation" is "please, just leave us alone".  Let us get along with our lives.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

And even if you feel that you can interpret a little sense of personal opinion being implied, it's certainly not clear enough for jcapan's extremely rude question/accusation/conclusion of "Are you saying you don't like gay people?"

It's ironic how you say it isn't clear enough for jcapan to ask a question which, without any clarity whatsoever, you imply could be an accusation or conclusion by jcapan. I'd say you pointing out the lack of clarity in sensei's post actually does warrant asking a question to clarify. That itself isn't and shouldn't be considered rude. If you are saying you can determine an underlying tone from jcapan's question then that is your opinion just as sensei may or may not have had an underlying tone which strangerland has an opinion about. Your opinions are not more valid than those of the other posters you are talking to/about.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Strangerland, have you ever seen a gay pride parade? If not, let me tell you exactly what happens at one: "gay people parade up and down the street in public display." The comment you quoted is essentially a dictionary definition of a gay pride parade, not an indictment of the poster's opinion.

As to the underlying opinion that you referenced - I don't believe there is any opinion there at all, none whatsoever, regarding how sensei feels about gay people. The only opinion of the post is that Taylor Swift is unbalanced - she wants anti-gay people to keep their opinions private, while gay people are encouraged to bring their opinions public. (Personally, I don't agree with sensei's complaint - it's the government who needs to guarantee free speech to both sides, while Taylor Swift is free to support whomever she wants and say "shut up" to whomever she wants.) Regardless, the point of the post has nothing to do with sensei's personal views on gay people. And even if you feel that you can interpret a little sense of personal opinion being implied, it's certainly not clear enough for jcapan's extremely rude question/accusation/conclusion of "Are you saying you don't like gay people?"

Bungle

Frankly speaking, regarding the LGBTQ community as a homogenous bloc is so utterly patronising. What exactly do the alphabet communities have in common with each other? I suppose if I were being naughty I might say "narcissism", but other than that...

Yes, I've always wondered how the LGB part, especially the B, is compatible with the TTQQIAAP part.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

sensei258:

Slightly hypocritical don't you think? She wants people who don't like gays to keep their mouth shut, but it's okay for gays to parade up and down the street in public display.

As opposed to everyone else flirting and jiggling their stuff at carnival time? Have you seen the stuff that goes on in Rio and Notting Hill?

concerned citizen:

Personally I'm not into the gay lifestyle and have an aversion to it.

And I don't think most gays chose this lifestyle. But of course, you probably think these people woke up one day and said, Oh I want to be gay from today.

fizzbit:

Of course! Freedom comes with many problems.

So true. For example, the freedom to choose a constant liar, racist, low-IQ immature five-year old as president of a country. Yes, so true.

bugle boy:

I don't dislike gay people as a rule

....and you have a gay relative, you like listening to Queen, blah blah blah.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I've never understood how consenting adults seeking and finding love in the world harms anyone else.

Kids today seem to think they invented this idea. It's been around for 30+ yrs, at least.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Who cares about gays, lesbians, bisexuals, queers (which I thought was another word for gay), intersex, etc anyway?

I hate my coworker and he’s straight as an arrow but a terrible person; I like my other coworker and he happens to be openly gay and is the nicest person in the world.

It doesn't matter what your sexuality and most people who disagree or are homophobic probably grew up in a deeply religious household.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Frankly speaking, regarding the LGBTQ community as a homogenous bloc is so utterly patronising

You should maybe look up the word patronising, as you have clearly not understood what it means.

How can one patronize a group they are a member of? It’s impossible.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

There was zero mention of sensei's personal opinion about gay people anywhere in that post.

You know, other than the underlying opinion from which this comment was made:

it's okay for gays to parade up and down the street in public display.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Right. And? Sensei was speaking generally about the definition of a word and how it's being used or misused in society. His/Her point was a linguistic one. There was zero mention of sensei's personal opinion about gay people anywhere in that post. How you conjured an anti-gay conclusion out of sensei's post is beyond me.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

jcapan, are you saying you like to skip around your neighborhood wearing a Santa Claus costume while singing Broadway showtunes? (I have the same amount of evidence behind that concept as you do for sensei258 not liking gay people. More reading comprehension, and fewer hasty accusations please.)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Now, if we can just go back to sensei's words in comment numero uno:

"And so often people misuse the term homophobe. Not liking someone doesn't mean you're afraid of them."

She's like a modern-day cross between Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr....for idiots

3 ( +9 / -6 )

She’s smart-business woman, this will help her CD sales if anything else. Other than that, no one really cares about her opinions.

At least those self righteous churches built hospitals, schools and had programs for the poor. Our present day liberal cultural leaders offer us virtually nothing but sermons (Taylor Swift style) and strict enforcement. God help us.

Exactly.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

In the sixties left wingers rightly campaigned for freedom of speech and against Western societies being dominated by self righteous, moralistic churches. But now that they have won the cultural war they've turned out even worse. They are the new 'scribes and pharisees'. Religious zealots with their own strict moral code, blasphemy laws and strict punishments for those 'deplorables' who 'sin'.

At least those self righteous churches built hospitals, schools and had programs for the poor. Our present day liberal cultural leaders offer us virtually nothing but sermons (Taylor Swift style) and strict enforcement. God help us.

America has been on a backward roll for sometime,

Of course! Freedom comes with many problems.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Taylor Swift is so brave. I hope her courage doesn't hurt her career.

Yeah right. She’s just taking advantage of an angle. Smart business woman, great singer, social guru?......cough cough

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Does that make me a homophobe?

Yes

So you agree that this hate towards “homophobes” is all about hating or disliking behavior and not the individual.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Does that make me a homophobe?

Yes.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

I don't dislike gay people as a rule, but I strongly dislike some of their behavior. "Pride" parades are one of those things I don't like. Trying to make rules on what language I should use is another. And the dislike goes beyond the gays. I also dislike it when any straight person supports such behavior. Don't act like that and I won't dislike you or disrespect you or discriminate toward you. Don't ask - don't tell - don't care so don't wanna know.

Does that make me a homophobe? Not liking certain behaviors?

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

More virtue signalling from entertainment figures. 'We're better and more moral than you. If you think differently you're a bad person. You deserve hell!'

Personally I'm not into the gay lifestyle and have an aversion to it. That's my preference. And everybody has preferences. But I don't hate them. I treat those I know with just the same respect and love as anyone else. I think the vast majority of society is the same.

Hollywood, entertainment, media elites have become just as moralistic and preachy as 1950's churches Bible bashers. Even worse.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Taylor Swift is so brave. I hope her courage doesn't hurt her career.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )
